Can’t join Forza session

The DNS message showing up is a red herring as the issue is not DNS related (I have tried numerous DNS settings to no avail). The issue is a server side issue which Forza Support on their Twitter feed have acknoledged and apparently investigating. The issue is, mainly, restricted to older consoles and PCs....Series X consoles are less afflicted

Yes, it appears there’s currently a known server issue in Forza Horizon 4 and it’s affecting both the Steam and Microsoft version (Xbox and Windows 10), as well as the official Forza Twitch channel for streamers.

This wasn’t a known issue at the time of posting my first reply.

All I can say is; I’m not personally experiencing any problems connecting online in FH4.

I’ve been disconnected maybe 2 or 3 times this week, but overall all good from my side. I’ve played multiple games of The Eliminator and other online races with no problems.

And I still posted the troubleshooting steps and support guides in case it helps. Even when there’s a server outage, sometimes adjusting your network settings helps

Regarding the layout/edit issue on the Forum, this is something that’s been reported, along with various other issues to the Forum owners. The layout is different for each device. I’ve submitted a number of reports on these issues myself, and I believe the site engineering team are aware of the issue and are working to resolve this.

Unfortunately the other response is not helpful. It's none of the above for that. Something has changed with series 35 and most particularly Winter. There are a lot of posts about it on Reddit and quite a few on Forza forums. I have only done 3 Forzathon events since Winter started, I've been in the game enough to have done over ten times that number. Just sits there "Finding a Horizon Life session." for two or three minutes then gives an error message, the one you posted. The answer does not lie in changing your settings, far too many people are experiencing the same problem for that to be the case. That is all that Microsoft or Playground are going to offer, though.

TLDR - something changed server-side in FH4 during series 35 Winter, nothing any of us can do about it.

What console are you experiencing this issue on - Xbox One, Series X|S, or PC (Windows 10)?

Keep in mind there are currently FH4 Known issues which are being addressed and worked on in regular updates.

It appears the specific error code 0x89232001 you receive is being caused by your network settings. First clear the MAC address. Then

make sure your IP address, DNS and alternate port selection are all set to automatic. These settings are in advanced network settings

on your Xbox console or PC.

If this error persists contact Xbox support and Forza support (submit a ticket with as much information as possible and they’ll reply by email). It would be best to reach out to support if all the troubleshooting steps haven’t resolved the issue, or if you encounter further

The main issue is a complex and confusing one as online play is, mostly, unaffected....the issue is the Horizon Life sessions. For example, I can join a convoy with my friends but I cannot get into their session (they on Series X's, me on a One X)...however, if someone starts a Custom Adventure then, when it starts, it pulls all the players into the same Life Session....we then go on and complete the races. Once finished, it then dumps them into a Life Session and me into no session (just gives the "Play online" button).

The strange thing is that the Series X consoles are much less afflicted....there were issues with them as well until the recent fix that sorted out the game crashing.

I think the error message that comes up is not helping as, in most cases that I have seen (both here and on the Forza forum), it is flagging a DNS issue when it isn't. Only thing I can think of is that the server issue is showing up in the system as a DNS failure and so reporting as such. The same was happening last Summer when there was the whole PC Toredo mess and it was flagging a DNS error when it was a Toredo error.

Ofc this issue isn't affecting everyone as I see convoys on Twitch streams...one yesterday had 11 players in it and I struggle to believe all 11 had new consoles (though it's possible of course)
