cant join console on the same network. this has only started happening in the last month

My wife and I have been gaming together for about a year without a problem. then about a month ago with the only game we really play (destiny) we got the message unable to join target player. I've seen several solutions but don't understand what i'm reading.
port forwarding is a recurring solution but when I go into my router the only thing that says port forwarding is a box that I can check or uncheck. another solution is a static IP address so I contacted my ISP and ordered one for another $20 a month. now what
do I do? will the static IP address just start working on its own? I'm guessing it wont but i dont know what to do to make it work.

all lobies for all classes of circuit, and american stock car lobby always only one there no one joins cant find a race, just started happening in the last 2 days

same here gears of war judgement starts then says cant download gears of war its only started doing this since last month its really anoying
