You're doing it correctly. The game is not a Play Anywhere title so the version you bought is only for the console. It's not available in the Microsoft Store for PC, so you would have to buy it elsewhere in order to play it on PC.

Unfortunately no. Even though the game was released for PC, it's not available for purchase on the Windows store. It would have to be purchased through Steam, Epic's game store, or another service in order to buy the PC version.

In order to buy a game on Xbox and also download it and play on the PC without buying it again, the game has to be Play Anywhere. https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/xbox-play-anywhere If it's not part of that, you would need to purchase the PC version of the game in order to play it on the PC or get Game Pass for PC if it's available through there.

no because fortnite on the laptop is handled by epic and vbucks purchased for the pc version are direct through the game on epic.
