    Can't install games on my D:\ drive and I'm stuck in a perpetual loop of errors 0x80073d22...


    So this happened completely out of nowhere.

    I've been playing Game Pass games on PC for years now and I've had no problems installing them either on my C:\ or D:\ drive, depending on storage room. I would flip flop in-between these two SSDs depending on game size and storage capacity and never thought twice about it, it worked flawlessly every time.

    One day, I notice an error as the Xbox app tries to update my Forza Motorsport install. It's returning the 0x80073d22 error code so I start looking online for fixes. I find threads upon threads both here on answers.microsoft.com and on Reddit and I slowly start implementing the most popular fixes that we're confirmed as solutions by multiple people.

    So far I have tried:

    • renaming the hidden WindowsApp and WpSystem folders
    • deleting the hidden WindowsApp and WpSystem folders
    • changed where 'new content is saved' in the Storage settings to my D:\ drive
    • tried every fix on this Answers thread
    • tried every fix on this other Answers thread
    • tried every step from this Guidingtech.com article
    • tried many other alternatives including sfc /scannow, reseting Store cache, reinstalling Gaming Services and all the apps
    Nothing. At best I managed to change the error from 0x80073d0d to 0x80073d22, which is the current situation.
    I have no WindowsApp or WpSystem folders on my D:\ drive currently.

    This is driving me absolutely insane. I sure hope there's a solution that doesn't require me to reinstall my OS cause my gaming rig is also my work rig.
    Lemme know what sort of extra info I can provide to help narrow this down.

    Yeah, I've got "show all folders, files, and drives" selected; the only things in there at the moment are:
    User

    DeliveryOptimization

    Program Files

    WindowsApps

    Try this please, go to disk D: using File explorer and look for a folder named "WpSystem" (If that folder isn't there, then this solution will probably not help you)

    (it is located at the same tree level as "Program Files")

    Delete or rename the WpSystem folder

    Ok, just as a test, install on C, let me know if you are able to do that, if this works try to move after installing to D, To do this, head to Settings > Apps > Apps & features. Click an app and click the “Move” button. You'll be prompted to select another drive, and you can then click “Move” to move the app to that drive. If you see a “Modify” button instead of a move button, you've selected a traditional desktop app.
