Can't Hear Chat Unless...

So I've been having an issue with my headset on the Xbox One. The headset I use is the Turtle Beach X42, but here is the issue. I can talk in the chat, and other people can hear me perfectly fine, but I can not hear them for whatever reason. After trying
to figure this out on my own, I discovered that I can only hear other people talk when my microphone is unplugged (but then I obviously can't talk to them) or if my controller is plugged into the Xbox One (but that defeats the purpose of it being wireless).
Does anyone know what is going on?

Xbox Voice Settings

Are you saying that you can't hear the normal in game chat when the audio settings are at default? You should be able to hear in game chat with the default settings unless someone is being quiet.

I have the same issue, Unless I turn down the chat volume on the controller, then it's fine, but I can't hear anyone talking

 

You headset is wireless, but it only supports wireless game audio, so you will have to have the headset plugged into the controller for chat to work properly.

On your controller's chat adapter you will want to press the button that rises the volume of voice chat until it beeps and won't allow you to adjust it anymore, this will ensure only chat audio is being sent through the controller since your wireless adapter
is broadcasting the game audio.

 

So I just did what you said and rose the volume of the voice chat until it beeped, but I still can't hear anyone in the chat unless I have my controller plugged in.

 

When you say "have my controller plugged in" do you mean connected to the console via USB cable?

 

Ah, I found the issue. I had to update the controller. (I tried to do this a couple of weeks ago but it didn't let me select the update option). It's working now. Sorry for wasting your time.
