"Can't get Teredo IP" error won't resolve

I am connected to a university network using an ethernet cord directly to my personal router. My router is a TP-Link WR841N.

I can connect perfectly fine to Xbox Live, and can stream on Netflix, etc. But I cannot get a multiplayer connection due to the Teredo error.

I have tried disabling uPnP, power cycling router, enabling uPnP, and power cycling Xbox (holding power button for 5 seconds). This did not work.

I have already assigned my Xbox a static IP. I have tried port forwarding to the Xbox as well as using a DMZ. (Right now, no port forwarding is being used since I gave up on it).

I have a strict NAT type, with "all services available."

Any ideas??

Yes, NAT type shows strict and testing the multiplayer connection yields this error: 'Can't get a Teredo IP address'

 

Even if this sounds strange, please try if a factory reset resolves your issue. We had this problem often here in the forums lately and usually it could be fixed with a factory reset.

 

i tried resetting and now when i try to add my microsoft account, i get an error that's telling me the xbox can't connect to my home network... this is annoying.

 

Are you getting any error codes?

I have the exact same router.

You must NOT do a static IP address via the xbox settings. Doing so breaks UPnP.

You must have the IP settings in the xbox set to Automatic

Then you must go into the routers web interface, go to address reservation then set up a static IP using that.

After this you must enable UPnP.

If this fails factory reset the router then try again.

EDIT: Just re-read your post. You are connected to a university network. University networks are usually on their own NATS. This means that by connecting a router you are behind another NAT. In other words you are connected through 2 routers so have a double
NAT. double NATs mean strict NAT and Teredo errors.

You should not be using a router if your university has it's own NAT. You should instead be using an Ethernet switch or a wireless access point that doesn't have it's own NAT.

 

Malacath, thank you for explaining it! I will try connecting via ethernet tonight and see if I get multiplayer connection. My only problem now is that my room only has one ethernet port, so if I connect to the xbox, I wouldn't be able to use my router for
my laptop/phone/etc. No solution to this right?

 

You're best bet would be to ask whoever is in charge of your university network.

I don't know if you are allowed to have multiple IP addresses to your room or just one.

If it's just one IP then a router is the only way you can share the connection or maybe use internet connection sharing on a laptop wired directly to the network.

But the network administrator in your uni should know if it's possible and how to connect.

 

Malacath, I connected straight to my university network via ethernet and I am still getting a strict NAT type with Teredo error when testing multiplayer connection. I had previously contacted IT at my school, and they unblocked all firewalls for my IP address
already...

 

I have seen a couple of threads where someone getting a strict NAT and Teredo errors was able to fix it by factory resetting the console.

You could try that although bear in mind that if you have never been able to connect online then your saves will not be synced in the cloud and you may lose them

 

He already tried that on my advice.

Even if you talked to your IT desk already, please try again. Having "only" the firewall opened for you may eventually not be enough if they still/also filter or block the teredo protocol which could be, as you still get that teredo error.

 

I talked to them, they said they did all they could on their end as far as unblocking my access.. I asked about the teredo error and they said it's "out of their scope" ... just gonna give up and get an android tv haha

 

I have a problem whit teredo too, when i connect xbox to internet and do the multiplayer test , but when i play gta 5 or call of duty it works for 10-20 minutes then kick mee out....

 

It's internet or console fail ?
