I cant get my old gamertag back ive tried several times and my friend called you guys he said you guys said, your gamertag cant been taken for 60 days i just went to the store to get microsoft points to change my gamertag back and now i cant use it

Want my old account back

I wanted to get my original account back but I forgot the email, I wanted to see if I had any security questions but I cant sign in with the gamertag anymore so I cant seem to get it back, bummer

Can't download update

The HDD is from my old console so I didnt need to download my gamertag, as I said before Id rather not delete and download my gamertag as I cant connect to xbox live so I may not get it back. I have over 10GB of saves & DLC that I cant back up so I cant
format the HDD. Time and date are fine, no corrupted content.

Sorry to hear that you're having issues. However, what you should do is contact phone support yourself to get the full story straight from the horses mouth as it were. Perhaps your friend misquoted what he was told.

and now you have tried it it will be locked out for another 2 hours to 24 hours as it reserves it for a short time.

Thank you for reaching out to the forum.

If your original gamertag was claimed by someone else already then you may not be able to get your gamertag back. However, if no one has taken your original gamertag then you can go to claim it again.

I highly advice you to try the following troubleshooting steps below before attempting to change your gamer tag again again.

Step 1: Clear Mac address:

Settings > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Alternate Mac Address > Clear it and the console should restart. It would definitely help if you could restart the internet router while the console is restarting.

Step 2: Remove your account:

First, please select System > Settings > account > remove accounts and then select your account and select Remove to confirm then re-add your account.
