    Hello,

    I have just received a Xbox 360 Kinect Sensor which I bought used on eBay.

    It seems to work ok but when I try and perform the Microphone Calibration it always fails.

    It successfully proceeds from the first two steps of "Test Background Noise" and "Speaker Volume".

    I have tried resetting the Xbox to Factory Defaults, moving the sensor to different positions, tried different volumes, tried through the stereo speakers as well as the TV's speakers but it will not complete.

    However, it seems to work with Speech Recognition?!?

    The Xbox 360 has all the latest software updates installed.

    What could be wrong?

    Could the Kinect Sensor be faulty?

    Unable to finish audio calibration

    My kinect will not finish audio calibration States:

    Can't calibrate the sensor's microphone.

    Make sure the sensor is plugged in.

    Obviously it's plugged in. This is on Xbox 360s

    We're so sorry to hear about the frustrations regarding your Kinect and the audio imbalances. So your Kinect sensor can better hear you, let's try a complete calibration with your Kinect, which is outlined in this

    troubleshooting guide     for the microphone and more. Additionally, make sure to turn up your TV volume a bit more than you usually have it while doing this calibration.

    The warranty on a second-hand Xbox devices is void, and the purchaser assumes the risk for any previous modifications or unauthorized activity.

    Clearly spelled buyer beware!

    When calibrating the Microphone on the Kinect Sensor, make sure that you turn up the sound "really" loud. After the test you can lower the volume again, but the louder you turn up the speakers, the better the result of the calibration.

    If you do the calibration at a normal room level volume, Kinect can't properly detect the size of the room, as it also takes account of the audio reflections from walls and such.

    So blast the volume for that test, and it should work.

    Ideally, imagine having an argument with a stubborn person that's covering their ears going "Lalalalalalala", and having to shout to get through.

    Set your TV or speakers to a similar volume to get a good test result.
