"Can't get IP address" but can still see friends online

So ever since the new dashboard has released I have had constant problems getting online, I'll start my Xbox up and it will look like it's not connected to the Internet, running a test returns "Can't get IP address" - even though it's a static IP address
assigned by my router, what's even stranger is if I go to my friends list I can still see people online and what they're doing.

this problem sometimes just resolves itself, but other times it just wont go online. last time I got into work was when I went to advanced settings and set IP address to automatic (which is what is was already set to anyway)

I've spoken with Xbox support chat and they weren't much help, claiming it to be an issue with my ISP, yet we have 2 other Xbox ones in the house which have no problem, not to mention other electronics which work fine. Normally I would put this down to a
wifi issue - but I'm hard wired (same as the other two xbox's in the house)

anyone else got this problem?

Then you will have to report the issue to Belkin as you can't fix this yourself. It needs to be resolved in firmware

 

Gift card stolen

we traded giftcards, and his giftcard code was already used.

I can't see the IP, I thought it was the IP but it appears to be the transaction code or something like that. Anyway I know I won't get it back I would just like to file a complaint so MS can block the account that redeemed the code.

 

Sorry to hear you're having this issue. Can you please try the following steps.

1. Power cycle the console by holding the power button for 10 seconds until it shuts down.

2. Press and hold the power button while simultaneously unplugging the console. Be sure to continue holding the power button until it stops flashing.

3. Leave the console unplugged for 5 minutes.

4. During this time power cycle your modem/router by unplugging for 5 seconds.

Hopefully this will resolve the issue for you.

 

But pulling the power while holding the power button just cuts the power completely, so no flash, is there a video on YouTube?

 

The suggestion was only for if there was a flash. The procedure helps clear out any extra data on the console.

 

Unfortunately not, I spoke with a friend who told me it can sometimes be to do with account data - definitely not the case, now I've got an xbox one that won't connect to XBL, with no profile so I can't even play games offline.

Right now it's got the NAT type set to strict (although I have seen it as open or moderate and still face the same problem). What's confusing is how can it have a NAT type if the xbox claims it "Can't get IP address" :S

 

Ok thanks for posting back. I have seen others posting in the forums as well saying that support did something with there accounts that fixed it. If this is the case then you should contact phone support to ask about that. If you live in North America

As for the NAT can you try power cycling the console down and unplug everything and let it sit for 5 minutes. During that time power cycle your modem/router by unplugging for 5 seconds.
