    U should check if u own Minecraft Xbox one edition check if it has a popup that says

    u have been playing Minecraft Xbox one edition for Certain days u can get this new Minecraft for free

    And once u tap to get Minecraft u will be redirected to the Xbox store Minecraft will be free

    That's how I got Minecraft free

    As long as you play at least 5 hours by January 30, 2018, you'll get the update for free. It'll show up as free in the store for you to download, but it can take a few days.

    DOES THE XBOX INDUCED NEW LIVE SUBSCRIPTION REQUIREMENT

    It's actually not free as part of Free Play Days, so a subscription should not be required. There should be a download in the store labelled free access for that game that is required to play it for free though.
