"Can't get an IP address" message when trying to connect to Xbox Live using ...

When I try to connect to xbox live on my xbox one using a mobile hotspot on my Verizon Galaxy S4 phone, I get the message "Can't get an IP address" from Xbox Live. The connection does work on my laptop however, I'm using it to send this message as we speak.


What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Any help greatly appreciated, I'm desperate to play TitanFall!

Hey everyone how's it going. My xbox won't let me play multiplayer. It keeps saying can't get toredo ip address. I use my Samsung galaxy s5 mobile hotspot on Verizon . And I have always used the Verizon hotspot for all my gaming and it worked perfectly
until now . Even though it does has a moderate nat I've always been able to play. Any help ?same issues?

you can connect over that. WiFi to the phone or hotspot, then phone or hotspot to the cellular data network.



A 360 S or an original 360 with WiFi can do the same thing today.

 

I am begging for some help, I would really love to get this going from the hotspot on my cellphone to my xbox without the aid of my laptop if at all possible.

 

I'm not sure if this helps troubleshooting at all but... When I try to bridge a connection from my laptop which is using the hotspot to the xbox one I get the message "cant connect to your DHCP server. I'm at a loss of how to troubleshoot this next. My laptop
is using the connection just fine...

 

Per the Xbox Support
page, "Note Satellite and 3G or 4G mobile connections are not recommended because you are likely to experience slow performance or lag.", which may be the cause of your issue connecting. Are you able to try the connection with something besides
a hotspot?

 

I'm in the exact same spot as the original poster... same phone, same network, similar issue. I'm a insider preview member and had just applied a new system update for the new interface coming next month. Everything looks fine, with the one exception of
not being able to sign into XBox Live, which means I can't play most, if not all, of the games I have on there. I was able to eventually get signed in using my sister's WiFi after I had originally bought it, but I really don't want to wait till next Friday
to get it signed in again. Has anyone been able to get around this, and if so how? I believe I either read or was told that it has something to do with certain ports being blocked by Verizon, but I was never able to find a way to unblock them, even temporarily.
Oh, and I did try the bridge thing and got the same results as the OP. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Using a mobile hotspot isn't recommend because of the slow connections and data usage as the console uses up to 3GB of Data a day on a portable network or hotspots,

You might be able to sign in but you would be unable to play online games

If you was using an portable network you have a better chance of gaming you will experience lag but you will be able to play and if you was in a city better the portable network will work

Unfortunately 3G or 4G isn't good enough for Xbox Live to run without issues

We recommend that users use a router or modem and putting the console in the same room or using an Eithernet Cable will stable your connections and also make sure you have all your ports open and that all your ports are forwarding and that your NAT Type
is open, this will help you stay connected and then your experience will have as little issues as possible

Thanks for the response. Actually, the speed I get when using my phone is more than enough for streaming and download large 2gig or larger files in little time. My average download speeds are between 11Mbps and 34Mbps. I use my phone's hotspot because it's
the only data connection I have at home, and I was lucky enough to get grandfathered into the unlimited data plan through Verizon so I thought I'd continue using it the way I did on the 360 I use to have. I'm not really that interested in playing multiplayer
games online, I just want to sign back into my account and play my games.

I totally understand that,

On Xbox One you need certain Parts to be open and forwarding, if your unable to access the settings on then you'll be unable to sign in, for more information on Xbox One Ports >>>

A portable network routers do work if you have so much data and connection speeds and you can even use Eithernet Cables to them, but they ain't recommended as they haven't got stable connections,

The Xbox One could crash the hotspot when it's updating what can use 3/5GB on the update plus being online uses upto 3GB a day, if the hotspot isn't very quick the hotspot will fail or the update will fail,

But as long as the connections are good enough to handle the high demand and has the ports open and forwarding with an open NAT Type then your Xbox One will connect to your phones Hotspot BUT I can't guarantee that you will be able to stay signed in and
be able to do part chats without lagging out and being signed out of Xbox live, you might have good days and bad days but we can't guarantee anything SORRY my friend

Thanks for the tip. How much would a portable network router cost, because right now that's my only limitation, since connection isn't a problem? If I could just find a way to adjust the firewall settings on my phone so I could open the required ports, that'd
be great. Unfortunately, though, the last time I tried to find something like that, mainly in the Play Store, I didn't really find much of anything that would be of any use. I know that a home wifi setup would be ideal, but at the moment, it's all I got, and
it works great on everything else I have it tethered to, including my Windows 10 desktop. Oh well, either way it's not a big deal. I can wait till Friday when I go to my sister's house for a XBox One play date with the nephews.
