I found the solution! Again, thank you guys for your help.

It's my boyfriend's console. There is an attachment on the side that is non OEM that has a fan to cool the system down. It allows play through of the USB ports. I switched the cable of the drive to the USB port on the back thinking the play through ports
were not usb 3.0 compatible and that seems to be the case. Tee formatting worked perfectly once I changed to the rear port. Finally! Had I known the add-on was not part of the original Xbox, I might have figured this whole thing out ages ago. Anyway, problem
solved. Thanks for the support, y'all!

Darren, thanks for your help and patience. I followed all the instructions to a T, and when the drive appears, it won't give me an option to format when I press the A button. It just gives me the option to view contents. IT's USB 3.0, 1.8TB free and I'm
back to the same issue as originally. The only way I could get the drive to show "format for apps and games" is when I formatted the drive through my Mac to exFAT32. As mentioned, it doesn't show that it formats and still shows the drive as a media storage
device. I did read something about not using a Fantom drive with Xbox One, so I'm thinking of returning the drive and trying a WD drive. Don't know what else to do at this point. The NTFS formatting isn't working.

If you have a new external drive. So after you plug him into the console. So the console itself will want to format it into its own format. Then, this disc will no longer be used elsewhere than on the Xbox. Until it is formatted in a PC.

When the console is formatted with this drive, a message appears in the console that connected the External Drive. You can then move games to this external drive via Manage game & apps.

As for external hard drives, you can't partition them for use as both external storage for games and for use with your Mac or PC. You can use an external hard drive on the Xbox One as a media drive, though.

If you format an external hard drive for Xbox One games storage, the whole drive is formatted and the file system is changed.

If you have a computer, you can try to format it on the computer first:

- Connect your external hard drive to the computer;

- Press Windows + E to open the file explorer and go to "This computer";

- Right-click on the external hard drive and click Format;

- Choose NTFS under File System;

- Check the Quick Format box and click Start.

Then, just insert the external HD on the console. Choose it as a storage to install games and apps.

If you want to format it right on the console:

- Press the Xbox button > Settings > System > Storage. The external storage should appear on this page.

- Highlight the external drive, press the A button and select Format > Choose games and apps.

The drive is not accessible by your computer because it is formatted in a proprietary format that is not readable by the computer. That is why an external drive has to be formatted by the console before it can be used for games and apps. It is highly
unlikely at this point you will find anyone that can or will get the console working for you.
