    Can’t Figure Out Series X Hard Drives and Multiple Downloads


    I’ve picked up digital copies of COD Black Ops Cold War and AC Valhalla. I’ve got the internal Seagate SSX expansion card and I my 3 TB Seagate Xbox One external drive that have been connected since setup. So far, I’ve had to uninstall and reinstall COD CW and AC. COD seems to work okay but Warzone is still on the external. Not sure what AC is going to work yet. COD kept crashing and AC was on both drives although I chose internal.

    Since launch, my Series X has constantly installed and updated nearly every title i have to optimize for X/S, but they generally show in both places. What’s going on? Do these games need to be on both? Can I just move the optimized X/S to internal for run? Also, if the expansion card was an internal SSD card, why does it seem to treat it like an Xbox One install? I’m just confused and the only thing that’s helped is to uninstall and redo on internal, but that has major limits with size.

    I’d like to get Warzone and 2K21 on the SSD drive, but wanted to do so on the expansion card. What am I missing here. Thanks!

    I saw somewhere that you could download dying light 2 onto a external hard drive, and it would be the Xbox one version because it said that series x games can’t be played from the external…

    Has anyone tested this to confirm?

    Xbox Series X games / upgrades / updates has to be installed onto the Series X internal or expansion card SSD,

    You can have Xbox One games on your external hard drive that will get an Series X upgrade but the games will need to be transferred to the Series X and then the Series X upgrade will need to be downloaded onto the Series X SSD,

    As an example...

    I have Marvel Avengers on my external hard drive that will get the Series X upgrade and I will transfer the game over to the Series X SSD ready to download and update the game to the Series X version when available.

    Hi,

    If your game is now a Series X optimised title, it can no longer be played off an external hard drive. It must be moved to either the internal storage or an optional expansion card.

    External USB hard drives are too slow to play Series X optimised games. None Series X games will still run from your external drive. The internal storage in the Series X is a fast NVME SSD. These drives are several times faster than mechanical hard drives.
