This is similar to a console not starting up but not so much....

A lot of the time I will hold down the Xbox button on the controller to boot up the system while im still busy doing something. I wont really look at the Xbox until I am gonna use it. Sometimes I will not hold it enough to actually initiate startup because
im not paying full attention yet. I thought I did that today when I noticed it wasn't on by the time I was ready to use it. It then got my full attention when upon doing the same thing again it appeared to NOT start up. Immediately I was like great my Xbox
is dead and there were ZERO warning signs of this happening. I recalled immediately I have a movie I rented in the drive so I was like oh great a rental disc is going to be stuck inside my console that I can't open. Right away I try hitting the eject button
expecting it not to open....it does open. I take it out and close it pleasantly surprised it opened....immediately wrote it off as "hhmm as long as theres a power connection the disc drive opens" still thinking the Xbox is having an issue. I then place my
hand to the back to unplug the power cord as that seems like a way to reset any possible temporary issues with electronics. Immediately I noticed the entire back was warm as if it had been running this entire time.....I at this point am very confused....so
instead of trying to unplug the power. I just push the main power button on the console about 3 times...on the third time it seemed to boot the Xbox up. WIth no issues at all....I then turned it off just to make sure the back cooled off...it did as it was
not fully off. I boot it back up 20 minutes later no issue what so ever.

WHat happened here? Did I somehow cause this by hitting the Xbox power up button on the controller during a bootup where I may have not noticed it already booting up or something? It was kind of hard to explain but thats exactly how it happened. I only wish
I had made it a point to see if the Xbox was making sound....because it sure seemed like it was in fact on but with no LED lights and doing nothing on the TV screen. I would imagine if the Xbox wasnt on....I wouldnt have been able to open up the disc drive.

:)

2. Virginmedia customers, Another national fault.

Thread title be changed (national fault),

If the same occurance which happened the other week then and affected a vast majoirty of people (up and down the country) then the thread title would be vaild.

However seen as that not many people are reporting issues with VM then the title is invaild.

I have had a few little issues recently (poor speeds) but nothing major (what happened the other week).

3. Hearhfire Kidnapped
Well I WOULD have been suprised today when it happened at my Lakeside estate next door to Riverside,, BUT... Even the Title is a spoiler!!
^^^ Is this guy serious!?

I mean, I'm not much of a fan of people posting spoilers. Common courtesy is to put 'spoiler' in the thread title and I support that practice fully. But C'mon... Hearthfire - Kidnapped thread title is vague and non-discriptive enough to not give much of anything
away. Aside from the fact that there is a kidnapping, but who, what, when, where, why, how... none of these things are mentioned in the thread title.

There's a difference between posting major spoilers in detail and being subtle. This is just being nit-picky.

SPOILER! Don't read!!!

5. Hey mate, the only thing I can think of here is that you may have background downloads enabled, this is the only thing that will keep the console on in a lower power state. If you don't have this option on I would say that you probably switch the console
on without realising it.

Also if the console is off, opening the disc tray will start the boot-up process and open the tray, which would make it look like the console was on before opening the tray when in fact it can do both at the same time.

You know what....Im gonna assume there was no update today. But had there been...that theory would actually have made perfect sense. Definately a good guess.

I pushed the 360 button on the controller to boot it up. So had it went into some kind of update and restarted the console and or I somehow turned it off by hitting it again during that without noticing....it would sorta of explain why the console was warm
as if it had just been on... and I would be thinking thats what caused it.

Only thing is...I know nothing was downloading. I hadn't had the system on since the previous night. Plus im gonna go out on a limb and assume there was no updates today?

The whole thing is weird....I tried booting it up...figured I must have not held the button long enough. Specifically pushed it down while looking directly at the Xbox noticing its not working. I then push the disc drive....it opens...I put my hand to the
back and it feels as if it was JUST on even though there is no LED indication of it being on at all...EVEN as the disc drive is open. I know usually if you open the disc drive it does in fact turn the system on but usually you would immediately see the LED
bootup sequence and it wasnt happening. I then push the power button and get no response several times....push it again and poof it turns on and seems to be working fine. Basically....I have no idea how the console would have gotten turned off had I in fact
actually turned it on the first time I tried.....or why it seemed unresponsive to my attempts to turn it on afterwards.

7. Haha, well it was an educated guess.

It does seem weird and I guess lots of stuff happens with electronics that's hard to explain. I would keep an eye on it to see if you notice any other weird behaviour and if it's still under warranty and keeps playing up, I would look at getting a replacement
before you warranty is out of date.
