    Can't Download Purchased Content on new Hard Drive


    Recently I got a Xbox 360 E (4gb version) and ordered some hard drive space for it. I was able to download everything just fine with the internal memory, no problems at all. Once I put in the hard drive, I couldn't download anything. I always got a "Can't
    download this item" every time.

    I know the hard drive is compatible with the Xbox, I can see its storage space. I just can't get anything on it. I tried clearing my cache, transferring content from the internal space to the hard drive, and transferring my license. I'm out of ideas.

    Hard Drive Licenses?

    The console licenses are associated with the console, not the hard drive. So you wont have to do anything but transfer the content to the new hard drive or download it again.

    All content purchased will stay associated with your account. You will only need to do a license transfer if you get a new console. You just need to access your download history and download the content again if you get a new hard drive.

    Rocksmith download problem

    have purchased foo fighters - monkey wrench, extra content.

    am in australia.

    Is is showing in purchase history, but says can't download when trying to get it.

    When the download starts it goes to 1% hen back to zero and then says can't download the content.

    have tried clearing system cache, can't delete it from hard drive as it's not showing there.

    other content downloads just fine

    Have you formatted the hard drive yet? Usually you have to format the hard drive for it to be usable.

    Go back to settings, system, storage, Press Y on your hard drive, and there should be a format option. Do that and you should be able to use it.

    Whenever I try it, it says "There was a problem preforming the action." I'm starting to think I got a faulty hard drive.

    Its is possible. My next suggestion would be to contact phone support maybe they can check it out for you. (800) 469-9269 is the number if you're in Canada or U.S. Let us know if they did help you out or anything.

    They basically confirmed that it was the hard drive. Ah well, at least it wasn't the Xbox itself messing me over.

    Downloaded content is tied to the account that purchased it and the console it was purchased on. You can redownload the games on the new hard drive without any issues.

    Do you have your new hard drive plugged into the transfer cable or your old hard drive? If you have your new hard drive plugged in to the cable you will need to switch them around.

    Also, once you have managed to transfer your content you should do a licence transfer so any profile on your new Xbox can use your downloaded content:

    The 4gb is internal flash memory and not a hard drive. He would need a hard drive in order to download the content. You don't necessarily need to buy him a whole new console. There are 250gb and 320gb hard drives available for purchase that you can add to
    his existing console.

    Please take a look at the content that you purchased to make sure that it doesn't state that it can't be downloaded and only streamed. That's usually the only reason why you wouldn't be able to download content onto the hard drive. Otherwise upon purchase of
    the movies you would have been prompted to download the movie(s).
