Can't Download Game Updates on Xbox Series X: Stuck at 0%

    Hi everyone,

I've been experiencing an issue with my Xbox Series X where I'm unable to download game updates. The updates are stuck at 0% and won't progress at all. I've tried restarting my console and ensuring a stable internet connection, but nothing seems to work. My other games and apps download without any problems, so I'm puzzled about what's causing this specific issue.

Has anyone else encountered a similar problem? Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

    :)

    Hi Ikluk,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues downloading games on your Xbox series X.

To ensure that your router is not experiencing any issues or bugs that may cause some websites or ports to be inaccessible, please do a power cycle by turning off the device, pulling it out of the power outlet for 50 seconds before turning it back on.

In addition, to make sure that what you are experiencing is not related to your device cache, I would recommend that you perform a power cycle. Please note that this is different from a regular restart, Kindly follow the steps below.

    1. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off.

    2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 50 seconds.

Important: Make sure that you wait at least 50 seconds. This step resets the power supply.

    3. Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the Xbox button on your controller.

If you don't see the green boot-up animation when the console restarts, repeat these steps. Make sure that you hold the power button until the console completely shuts down.

Important If your console is in Sleep mode, the above steps will shut the console off completely. Sleep mode, or the ability to turn on your console by saying "Xbox on," won't be enabled until you restart the console.

    Regards,

    Alvaro

    Hi, Taunya Farman.

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community.

From your description, I understand that you are unable to download games on your Xbox Series X. I understand your confusion about this problem.

First of all, it is commendable that you have tried to solve the problem by yourself by trying to restart the console, check the network connection, clear the browser cache, and check the storage space.

Maybe other users can troubleshoot according to the solutions you have tried when encountering similar problems. Here, please allow me to express my gratitude to you.

In fact, there is a user who encountered the same problem as you. He encountered this problem when installing disc games by unplugging the external storage device and installing the game on the console's internal storage.

Please unplug the power cord from the back of the router, modem, or gateway for 5 minutes. If you have a router and a modem, unplug the power cord from both devices. After 5 minutes, plug in the modem or gateway first, and wait for all the lights to return to normal before trying to start the Xbox console.

Sometimes this may be due to the network. Please try the following:

    • Try to use a mobile hotspot first to see if the same problem occurs. This step is to help you rule out network problems.
    • Change the DNS settings to a public DNS address. For example, Google DNS (8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1). After changing the DNS, you need to restart your network devices and computer for the settings to take effect.
Disclaimer: Before performing any reset or restart operations, make sure you have backed up all important data.

Xbox console steps to change DNS: Select "Profile and system" > "Settings" > "General" > "Network settings".

Under "Advanced settings", select "DNS settings". Select "Manual", which will go to "Primary DNS server".

In addition, you can also try to contact Xbox support and report the problem you encountered to them and seek further help from them.

Pre download Xbox Series X games

    Not really...

Xbox Series X games / upgrades / updates has to be installed onto the Series X internal or expansion card SSD,

You can have Xbox One games on your external hard drive that will get an Series X upgrade but the games will need to be transferred to the Series X and then the Series X upgrade will need to be downloaded onto the Series X SSD,

    As an example...

I have Marvel Avengers on my external hard drive that will get the Series X upgrade and I will transfer the game over to the Series X SSD ready to download and update the game to the Series X version when available.

And how do you suggest I right click on the game to get to properties on an Xbox Series X?

    Either way, waste of time.

I uninstalled and reinstalled game, now it's stuck on checking for update.
