Can't download a free game without selecting a credit card

I'm on my Xbox One trying to download this game called The Crew because it's for free. I pressed the purchase button and it took me into a screen showing my expired credit card (I only have one credit card linked to my Xbox One) then I tried to head over
to click the Buy button but it needs to have a credit card selected. Is it necessary to have a credit card selected to buy a free game or is it an error? I do have gold membership so I don't know whats wrong. Please help.

No I can not download a game trailers from my console without a credit card attached to my account I contactes customer support and they told me the reason I can't download the FREE game trailer is because I don't have a credit card on my account. I will
not use a credit card online or in store period

Are you getting the xbox 360 version or the one

Only the one is free

Also your account must be in good standing so if you have an expired card you must update the card

 

It won't charge you but your account must be in good standing and upto dare

You can always remove the payment method however it won't allow you to download 360 games with gold without a valid payment method

 

If you have autorenewal on orhave a membership connected to the payment method you should update it anyways as your account would go into suspended status

Xbox requires you to update expires payment methods or remove them in order roo be in good standing

 

Sorry it would go into suspenddd status if it renews and you don't update the payment method by the renewal date

 

I'm trying to get a free game that's on the Xbox One, do I need a payment method selected to get it just like the Xbox 360?
