Can't connect Xbox One S to my Windows 10 laptop

It is visible from the mobile app, but the problem isn't that it isn't listed, I see it on the add device list but when I try to connect it comes up as an error. It is, however, visible from both my laptop and my phone.

Make sure both objects are in the same network. In the search bar type CMD hit enter you should get a black window looks like the old DOS days. Type ipconfig hit enter to get the IP of the PC, check the network settings on the Xbox for its IP. If you
know subnetting you can tell from there if not type ping xx.xx.xx.xx IP address of the console and hit enter. If the ping works you should be fine as you are in the same network if you cannot ping you are not in the same network space.

Is the xbox of PC on a wired connection and the other is wireless? This can be a cause of being in separate networks. Are you using an extender or mesh systems for WiFi? again if one is wired and the others on a mesh or extender it is possibly then a
different network.
