Can't connect to xbox live through laptop

So I've done all the required steps to set up my xbox live using my laptop as shown here How to Connect Xbox 360 to Xbox Live Without a Router but I can't
connect. I've reset every thing, the modem, laptop, xbox, unplugged everything, I've gone through every thing and it just isn't working. It was working perfectly fine 2 days ago, I think yesterday I switched off the xbox via the mains by mistake and it hasn't
worked since. Previously I was using a "shared connection", since it stopped working I have tried both the "shared connection" and "bridged connection" and neither have worked. I've tried the troubleshooting solutions (e.g. manually entering IP address) and
it still isn't working.

I thought Xbox live was supposed to be a bit of fun but this is just a waste of time.

When that test fails - as long as it's running the firmware programmed by microsoft - it will give you a message that says to hit more info for a description of the problem; on this screen you will want to look at the first couple lines that show up at the
top of the message.

So it broke when you switched the power of at the main board, maybe it just needs a 'Power Cycle', please use these steps to perform one: Disconnect the power brick from the console and the wall outlet > Wait for 60 seconds > Plug it back in and test the
network again. If that doesn't work could you please test the network cable coming out of the laptop to make sure its not faulty?

 

I've unplugged everything a few times, as for the cable I've swapped it for another one and it still isn't working. Nothing is wrong with these cables as they have been used many times before with no problems.

I've also connected the xbox directly to the modem, but that didn't work either. It's not the cable, the internet in my house, the modem, I'm pretty sure the xbox is broken in some way - although offline everything seems to working fine.

With your console directly connected to your modem, go into your console's Network settings and select Test Xbox Live connection, which will run a diagnostic test for your console's connectivity.

Let us know where this test fails to connect on its way to Live.

While you're troubleshooting on your console, go to Xbox Network settings. Select your connection type and press the following combo on your controller:

LT RT RT LT RB LB and select a test server.

This combination let you perform a traceroute from your console, to make it easier to find out where exactly the broken link in the chain is placed.
