Can't connect to Xbox Live due to external hard drive

I just recently bought an external hard drive and set it all up with my Xbox One and it refuses to connect to xbox live while it is plugged in, if I unplug it then everything is fine and connects immediately but otherwise if its plugged in then it just wont

If I used a 4GB Xbox 360 Console with an external hard drive would I be able to connect to xbox live?

Connecting External Hard Drive Causes Xbox One Not To Connect To Xbox Live

Hard Drive : My Passport Ultra 1TB USB 3.0

When I connect this device to the "Top& bottom" USB port in the back of the Xbox One I get the following errors

- Can't Access Xbox Live (can't download,play games or access apps)

- Already formatted the device a few times

- There are no downloaded files on the hard drive

I was wondering if anyone had any similar problems like this when they try to connect an external hard drive to their xbox ones

Sorry to hear it. What brand is the drive and is it a USB 3.0 drive? Some people have had issues with getting a Seagate drive working.

Also, can you try holding the power button on the console for 10 seconds until it shuts down then unplug everything from it for 5 minutes to see if that helps.

The small print at the bottom of the page that I linked for you mentions:

"USB flash drive is not a hard drive."

Xbox's connection with an external drive is read-only. You can only read files that are already on the drive after connecting. You can't save game files or anything else on the Xbox main drive onto an external hard drive.

Is this game stored on your Internal Storage or External hard drive? If it's on your External Hard drive kindly move it to your Internal Storage then remove the hard drive. This is to check if it's due to the external hard drive.

Some games do require an Xbox hard drive due to the system files on the drives. External hard drives will not work. They require an official MS Xbox 360 hard drive.

Your Xbox One console may be unable to detect a wireless connection while an external hard drive is plugged in. Workaround: Unplug the external hard drive, hard reset the console, connect to WiFi, then connect the external hard driv

Sorry to here this, Have to ask if you using a external hard drive at all? have to ask due to there is a way to saved clips on external hard drive. It is extremely odd for it to delete games from reinstalling a game. Can't say I have heard of that one
