Can't connect to my home network at all

Hey guys. I have an Xbox 360 that I got sometime back in 08' or 09'. (Yes I know its old) but I have never gotten this thing connected to my network. I've actually taken this to my friend's house to see if my router was trashed but seems to me that the console
can't get through anything by Ethernet. I haven't tried using a USB networking adapter by Microsoft but have used a USB network adapter by Netgear but didn't work and assumed that the console needed the content from the second disc. I used the Netgear on my
old computer that had a burnt out Ethernet adapter. I recently got a new computer with Windows 8 (which is what I'm using now) that has an internal Wi-Fi connection adapter. I connected the console to the computer using a shared network and assumed it would
work good but didn't of course. The console is reading the Ethernet and shows that its connected to something but it never works. I've looked at everything and got nothing. Wondering if someone could please help me cause I want to get on live and play with
friends but this thing I have just won't budge. I have also connected my HDD to a different console and got onto live by then but my console just can't.

    Thanks to whoever helps

Yours Truly, Sandman, The One And Only

    :)

Can't connect to Xbox Live (obviously)

Yeah, there's nothing because it can't obtain an IP address because it can't even connect to my home network.

    Hi Sandman9200,

Could I just confirm - are you trying to access the router using a wired connection or a wireless connection?

Also, you said that the console reads that it is connected 'to something'. So if you try to run a network test for the connection on the console, what is the error that it gives you and at what part of the test is it failing?

There are a number of reasons that could be causing this and answering the questions above will help me to narrow it down a bit. It could be anything from your ports not being forwarded, to your console having a faulty Ethernet port, or many more... If you
can answer the questions above for me, then I'll try my best to get you a solution that will see you online and happily gaming very soon!

I've been getting an IP Address Error when connecting to the network. I'm starting to think it has a blown out Ethernet like my old computer so I'm going to see if online repairs does anything.

    Ok, thanks for that Sandman9200,

That helps narrow it down a bit.

Although, it would help if you could give me the *exact* error that it gives you and at what part of the test it fails (e.g. the Network Connection Phase, The Internet Connection Phase, or the Xbox Live Connection Phase).

Could you also please confirm if this is a wired or wireless connection?

It sounds like you might be having problems with your modem/router successfully assigning an IP Address to your console. What might be a good idea is if you can see whether you can set a static IP address for the Xbox Console on your modem/router's interface
(see the instructions that came with the modem/router for how to do this). Then you can also set the static IP on the console under Settings > Network > Wired/Wireless Network > Configure Network. Once both of these settings match, this should allow your console
to properly communicate with your modem/router and should hopefully resolve any IP errors you are having.

    If that's not the case, I recommend looking into Port Forwarding the required ports for Xbox Live on your modem/router, as it's possible that the ports the Console needs aren't open properly. You can find more on how to do that here;

    support.xbox.com/.../network-ports-used-xbox-live

Once again - It would be a huge help if you could answer the questions above, as that will allow us to narrow down your issue further and try to find a resolution for you if the above troubleshooting steps don't work out.

I'm using a wired connection and its failing at the first phase, Network. As you said that the Console's ports aren't open properly may seem reasonable in my eyes. I'll take a look at that link to see if it does me any good.

Can't connect to my home network at all

But i should mention that my xbox is hooked up to my Wi-Fi compatible desktop computer. I tried using it to get the connection wirelessly through my computer's internet. I'm going to look more up about this to see if I'm doing anything wrong

    Sandman9200,

Ok - it does sound to me like you are having an issue with your Router/Modem assigning the console an IP address. This is incredibly common, particularly if you're trying to connect them through another device (e.g. using your laptop as the middle-man).
I suggest you try connecting the console directly to the modem/router and then trying the 'Static IP' tip that I gave above.

Can you please confirm for me what error the console gives you when you run the test and it fails the Network Connection? If you select 'More Info', it should tell you why the connection failed. This will help us to isolate the issue further. I really can't
assist you much further unless I know what error the console is actually encountering whilst trying to connect you to the network.

Ok the problem is that my xbox is setup in my room where the router is about 20 feet away through a wall. I really shouldn't move the thing and get my parents *** off at me. But I'll see what I can do.

Ok I got some good news... I went to my same old friends house with my 360 and did what you told me and it actually worked! My system is now updated to the latest version and it connected automatically when the thing was connected to my network. Thank you
very much for the help! If you'd like to add me my gamertag is Sandman9202.

Xbox one won't connect to wireless

I tried resetting the console, but trying to set up the wireless to my home's connection still tells me it can't connect and to check the network name and password, but I'm using all the correct info.

I can try a power cycle on the router or modem later, but not any time soon as someone needs it for work at home stuff for the time being

Xbox app wont connect to xbox

if your Xbox is wired and your phone is on the wireless side are you sure they are in the same network? On my home setup my Xbox and PC are wired while all the wireless connections are in a different network. If they are not in the same network it will
    not connect.
