Can't connect to live with manual IP settings

As the title reads, I cannot connect with manual ip settings. I am trying to set a static IP for my xbox, but it won't connect. I can type EXACTLY what the xbox puts for automatic IP settings, where it will work perfectly fine, in to the manual settings,
but it won't let me connect, claiming there is a DNS error.Also, while playing, I get disconnected from live and when I check the IP of my xbox, it changes my xbox IP to 192.168.x.x. I have an alternate mac address (to resolve NAT issues), and I have everything
else configured for my router. I only need to know how to fix the issue SOLELY on the xbox's end.

Disconnecting every 15 precise minutes

i have disabled upn and use manual ip + dmz = can't connect to xbox live

i have used upnp + automaticp ip = can't connect to xbox live

Xbox one forgets gateway IP address

My xbox one can't seem to remember my gateway Ip address on start up. I'm forced to enter 192.168.0.1 for it to connect to live. I use manual settings as I have assigned a static IP to my xbox one with port forwarding.

All other manual settings, including console ip, gateway and DNS settings are stored fine, only the gateway IP (im guessing this is the router IP?) seems to be forgotten everytime I turn off my console. Once I enter the gateway Ip everything works
perfectly but its a real pain having to do it manually.

Im on a wired connection, with a netgear DNG100 router, if that helps.

I meant to say it changes the IP to 169.254.x.x instead of 192.168.x.x

Sorry to hear about the network issues! You shouldn't need to set up an alternate MAC address to resolve NAT issues. Please post back with the following information so we can help you get this issue sorted!

169.254.x.x is the IP address your console assigns itself when it isn't getting anything from your router's DHCP. Set a static IP using your MAC address via your router--not your console.

Since the default automatic settings did not work, try setting the IP address manually. First get your computer's IP settings, and then set your console's IP settings.

Solved it myself in the end.

Changed setting to manual and entered a different IP to the one that was automatically chosen, still couldn't connect but tests passed.

Set the network settings back to Automatic which picked the old IP but this time I could connect to Live with it.

The 360 is a very confusing beast.

When it can't connect to xbox live do you perform a network test? If so, on what step does the red X appear? If you're port forwarding, I'm assuming that you're using a static (manually set by you) IP.

If you are using a static IP, is your brother's xbox set to the same IP? This would cause problems if you were both playing at the same time.

If you are not using a static IP, this could be the reason that your xbox live stops working after you shut it off and it only works sporadically.

Solution 2: Set your console's IP settings manually

If you receive either of the following error messages, try the steps below:

Can't obtain an IP address from your router or modem

Your DNS server can't resolve Xbox Live server names

1.Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings and then select System Settings.

2.Select Network Settings.

3.Select Wired Network if you are prompted to do so.

4.Select Configure Network.

5.On the Basic Settings tab, select IP Settings.

6.Select Manual and then select IP Address.

7.Enter 192.168.0.2 and then select Done.

8.Select Subnet Mask, enter 255.255.255.0 and then select Done.

9.Select Gateway, enter 192.168.0.1 and then select Done.

10.On the Basic Settings tab, select DNS Settings.

11.Select Manual.

12.Select Primary DNS Server.

13.Enter 192.168.0.1 and then select Done.

14.Select Done again.

15.Press B on your controller and then select Test Xbox Live Connection.
