I think your getting a little confused.

In Halo Wars they had Spartan-2 with Mk 4 armor

Master Chief is a Spartan-2 with Mk 5 armor in Halo CE

Master Chief gets Mk 6 armor in Halo 2 (he has this in Halo 3 as well)

The spartans in Halo: Reach were Spartan-3 (except Jorge who was a spartan-2)

These spartans in Halo 4 multiplayer are Spartan-4, not sure what armor they are using, it will probably be customisable as in Reach.

I've played all the traditional Halo games, I haven't tried

No, it can't. Getting a perfect 4 shot DMR is pretty easy. :| The spartans are slow (like all halo's, not complaining) and the box to hit the head is massive.

I'm pretty sure I'm not. But, a Halo title wouldn't necessarily be a full-blown shooter or RTS game. Halo: Spartan Assault and Halo: Spartan Strike are both valid Halo titles, but not in the same league as, say, Reach, or Halo 5.
