Can't chat and can't hear others talking when plugging headset into controller

My xbox mic that came with the xbox works, but when using turtle beaches or astros I can no longer hear anyone or chat with them. It worked fine for a few months but has stopped working. Any ideas?

Head set

My headset only works in party chat. When I'm playing other games I can see that people are talking but I can't hear them and they can't hear me. It only works in party chat.

 

Controller mic problem

So I just got a controller, when plugging in the headset mic it shows on the game that the mic is plugged in (playing b ops 2 and the speaker sign shows up when plugging in headset). When I talk however my voice doesn't go thru and my friends can't hear
me. When I send a message to myself however my voice picks up in the message but its very quiet. I know it's not my headset because when I plug it into another controller it works fine.

Sorry to hear about the chat issue! I have a few questions to help clarify before we troubleshoot.

1. Your Xbox One headset works with party chat, but the other headsets don't work?
   
2. Are you using the Xbox One Stereo Headset adapter?
3. What are the brand and model numbers of the headsets you are trying to use?

2. For the Turtle Beach headset, yes. For the Astros, I am using the Astro supplied adapter.

3. Turtle Beach PX3, Astro A50

 

To help us narrow down the issue, could you try a different Xbox One controller? That will help us find the root of the issue!

 

I've tried all the obvious things. Multiple controllers, multiple adapters, multiple headsets, updating controllers, firmware updates, etc etc been through a lot of support mazes and nothing has helped thus far.

 

Thank you for your patience, I really understand how frustrating this could be. I have a couple more questions for you:

1. When did this issue come about? Did it happen after a particular update or controller update?
   
2. Does audio work on other devices, such as a smart phone or PC?

Also, I recommend downloading the Skype app on the Xbox One and try the 'Skype Echo Test' (This shows up in your contacts list within the app). Do that test and let us know if the audio picks up!

Post back the results and when this started so we look into this issue further.

 

Both headsets still work for my PC, and yes I have also tried the Skype App on Xbox One, not working either. Skype works on PC though with both headsets.

I don't recall the problem occurring after any certain update. Definitely not a controller update, haven't done one of those in a while before troubleshooting these problems.

 

Did this start to happen around the time you originally posted?

 

Quite a while before actually. It was happening with my first headset, so I thought it was the headset causing problems, then ordered a new headset about a week after the problems started happening, then a week to get the headset, so a while before the post.

 

Alright, next I will recommend a
Xbox One Factory Reset. I know that solution is not ideal, but hopefully that will help us out. Keep in mind that this will remove all data from your Xbox One console, including game saves stored on the HDD, and any games or apps installed.

Again, I'm sincerely sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Try that and post back to let us know how it goes!

 

I'm going to lose all my purchased games and saved games?

 

You can still redownload the games you have purchased through the Xbox One marketplace!

As for your saved games, all saves default to the cloud as long as you connect to Xbox Live. So unless you might have manually deleted them from the cloud specifically, you shouldn't worry about losing them. I just wanted to make sure you knew that would
revert your console to factory defaults. You can refer to the support article I provided in my last post for a full list of items that would be removed.
