Can't change Xbox account settings due to parent account.

Hi.

I recently tried changing some settings on my Xbox 360 account but found I could not do that due to the account not having permissions from a parent account. Though the problem is, I have never created a parent account for the account I have, nor have I
done any family sharing on it. It's become quite frustrating as I also can't access any articles or buy anything with my Microsoft account. Any help would be greatly appreciating.

How to change Xbox LIVE online safety and privacy settings

You are allowed change the online safety and privacy settings for any profile on your console.

How to change your safety and privacy settings

Steps to follow:

First, you have to go to the My Account page

You need to sing in to your Xbox LIVE account clicking Sing In at the upper-right corner of the page.

Go to Settings and Preferences and select Privacy and Online Settings.

Now change the settings.

How to change your child’s safety and privacy settings

Steps to follow:

First, you have to go to the My Account page

You need to sing in to your Xbox LIVE account clicking Sing In at the upper-right corner of the page.

Proceed to Settings and Privacy and press Child.

Note: You’ll be asked for the parental Microsoft account in order to make changes to the child account’s safety settings.

Now change the settings.

Setting up accounts for family members

Unfortunately each account needs to be signed in; however you can always let him play on a guest account instead. You can set parental controls on a guest account as well; we actually have a guide for it here: Guest Restrictions

Once you register an xbox live account as a child account you can't change it. The parental account can change privacy settings of the child account though.

I'm sort of having this problem as well. An old parent account I made during the creation of my account has me added to their family and I have no way of accessing this account because I believe that it has been deleted due to the 365 days thing. Currently
have 40 quid in my account and can't buy anything because I can't change any of my settings because I can't access that parent account.

Only an adult (parental account) can make the changes in privacy settings for a child account. The child account can't perform the changes itself.

this could be caused by (parental) online safety and privacy settings.

Please check http://account.xbox.com/settings

and check if all settings are set to allow you on Xbox Live, if you yourself can't change the settings then they are most likely under control of a parental account, that parental account has to sign in and is able to set the settings for your account.

Sorry to hear it. The issue is more than likely due to the fact that you cannot change your own child settings. Only the parental account can make changes to a child account.
