1. Can't change 'strict' NAT type on Xbox One

Hi

Ever since I moved, thus getting a new internet connection, I've been having trouble getting into online games. Also I can't join parties on Xbox One. Private Chat on the 360 seems to work.

I guess the problem is my NAT type, which my Xbox One tells me is strict.

Now, i searched Google for this issue and there were mostly two solutions on many different web sites:

1. Set the Xbox as an 'exposed host' in your router's settings.

2. Manually open several Ports; Namely

Port 88 (UDP)

Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)

Port 53 (UDP and TCP)

Port 80 (TCP)

Port 500 (UDP)

Port 3544 (UDP)

Port 4500 (UDP)

I've done both of these things and rebooted both the console and the Modem several times but the NAT stays strict.

My modem is the Fritz!Box Fon WLan 7360 and both the 360 and One consoles are connected via cable.

So, now I'm hoping any of you guys have got some other solutions as its highly annoying, especially because everything worked just fine with the ceonnection in my former apartment.

:)

Your "FritzBox" looks like it is a modem and router , if it is ( Gateway ) you will have a hard time with it , it may say its port forwarding but its not really , plus , with a 360 console in the loop they might be fighting with each other....you could try
taking the 360 out and resetting everything , but in my experience , a separate modem (MODEM ONLY ) and a separate router that has good upnp will open whatever ports are need even with multiple consoles , is the way to go (Netgear cheapies worked for me)...

5. Ah, I see. I still got the old router with which it worked in the old apartment, so I'm gonna connect the two Xbox consoles via the router to the modem and see if it works. Thanks for the tip. I'll report if it did the trick.

Thanks for the tip!

6. Okay, if anything, that made it worse Can't change 'strict' NAT type on Xbox One :)

I reset the Modem's settings now as I tampered with quite a lot of them to find a solution. Now, its factory settings except for the "exposed host" for the Xbox One and the NAT type is still strict.

I'm open for any suggestion as to how to get that to at least "moderate".

7. If you use the "Fritzbox" as a modem , and add routers to it , then you are going to get double NAT , you have to put it in "Bridge mode" , sometimes you ISP has to do this , this CAN work but I still don't like it , if you cant get it (I doubt you will
get both consoles open ) you may have to bite the bullet and get a modem and ditch the Fritzbox , what kind of router is it anyway ? if it dosent have good upnp it may not matter...

Ah I see, didn't make the necessary changes to the settings then. I'm not at home over the weekend, but will definitely give your solution a try on Sunday and report on my success with it.

An old modem can sometimes affect your connection, and/or could be your DSL Line damaged (Fritzbox is a DSL modem.) Do you have a slow connection on all your devices, and what are you paying for in terms of speed?

10. Okay, setting the modem as a bridge seems quite complicated, judging from the how-to's I checked out on Google. But I noticed something when watching a YouTube video on this issue: The solution was the usual "exposed host" one but in his "list of the ports
open to UPnP" he had several entries and said that those were the ones the Xbox opened itself due to the exposed host setting. My same list of those ports is empty, even though the Xbox is running. Situation in modem settings shown in picture:
postimg.org/.../575t8lsad

Also, I just checked the multiplayer connection and it said it couldn't get a "Teledo IP adress" and to unplug/ plug back in my modem. That didn't change anything. The next tip the Xbox had was to open port 3544. These two occurences show that the exposed
host setting isn't working properly, aren't they?

@ TGC Packer: I don't think the modem is old, as I got it just two weeks ago from my new provider. The issue isn't a slow connection, even though I'm sure its among the slower ones. All other devices/services like laptop, phone and internet radio via the
amplifier work. It's just the Xbox one that refuses to do so.

P.S. I also contacted my ISP, but theyre obviously not the quickest ones to answer... So I'm open for any suggestions.

Well sometimes it can be on your ISP end, and since your using DSL the quality of the line between your home and the DSLAM can be degraded, and that can be an issue, but I won't think its that just yet. Is QoS enabled? If so, try disabling that, and make
sure your ports are fowarded as well; if you see the same or degraded performance after the change, enable it again, and post back.

12. Yeah, I contacted my ISP about the issue, but I'm still owed an answer from them...

By enabling QoS you mean priorization? That is disabled in my settings by default.

Under "port forwarding" i found the entry showing my Xbox as an eposed host, so I take it port forwarding's enabled too?

Can't change 'strict' NAT type on Xbox One

Greetings!

Port 3544 (UDP)

Port 4500 (UDP)

I've done both of these things and rebooted both the console and the Modem several times but the NAT stays strict.
This is not a correct configuration if you connect more than one Xbox to the same router Internet Connection.

To have both of your consoles diagnosed with Open NAT behaviour, your router should only have UPnP enabled, as the method to
automatically port forwarding. So, make sure you do not manually configure Exposed Host, or Port Forwarding.

Can you run the Test Multiplayer Connection troubleshooting tool on the console. When the test is finished, press LT/RT/LB/RB combination on your controller, for detailed statistics. This causes the Xbox One to delete
any existing port mapping in your routers NAT table, and in more particular, port 3074/UDP.

By running the Test Multiplayer Connection test, can you also tell us if your Xbox One indicate that a Teredo Address is not present.

Can you also verify that the Teredo-Filter option is unchecked (Internet - Filters - Lists), along with
IPv6 support check box being unchecked. If you don't find these options, be sure to change
View, from Standard, to Advanced.

Keep us posted!

14. Hello and thanks in advance for your interest in my problem Can't change 'strict' NAT type on Xbox One :)

By enabling UPnP, I guess you mean "Allow changes to security settings over UPnP", right? That's enabled and I took the "exposed host" setting out and unchecked both the "teredo filter" and IPV6 support.

With all these things changed, the Xbox couldn't even connect to the internet anymore, so I put them back as they were for now.

The detailed network statistics show an entry "detailed NAT information" and it says there "your network is behind a firewall (or not connected)" I guess that's what's causing the strict NAT. How can I change that?

After the connection test, it says "cannot get a Teredo IP adress".
By enabling UPnP, I guess you mean "Allow changes to security settings over UPnP", right?
Just make sure you've done as the following steps up front:

1. Click "Network" in the "Home Network" menu.
2. Click on the "Network Settings" tab.
3. Enable the option "Transmit status information over UPnP".
4. Click "Apply" to save your settings.
5. Click "Permit Access" in the "Internet" menu.
6. Click on the "Port Forwarding" tab.
7. Enable the option "Allow changes to security settings over UPnP".
8. Click "Apply" to save your settings.

Go to Xbox One network settings and select the option Alternate MAC address. Select
Clear and turn off your console.

Go to your Fritz!Box and make sure you've enabled UPnP correctly.

Make sure Teredo Filter and IPv6 support are both unchecked/disabled.

Unplug the power supply for your Fritz!Box and let it sit for a couple of minutes before you reconnect the power supply.

Go to your PC machine, or Mac, and make sure you have Internet connectivity (IPv4).

Turn on your Xbox One and run the netwok connection test.

Run Multiplayer connection test followed by the combination for detailed statistics and let us know if it can obtain a Teredo address properly.
