How to Manage your Xbox LIVE payment options

    Overview

You can choose to use more than one payment method for your Xbox LIVE account. The payment options include credit cards and PayPal accounts. You can use these payment options to buy items from Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

The 2-year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract uses only credit cards as the payment option. The other payment options like Debit Cards, Prepaid cards and PayPal are not valid for this subscription. However, you can change your payment to another credit card.

If it is before the end of the two years and there is no credit card associated with your account, it is assumed you have terminated the subscription, and you will be charged an Early Termination Fee and any applicable taxes.

It is easy to edit your payment options on your console or at Xbox.com

    Steps to Follow

Add or change a payment option using your console

    1) Use your Xbox LIVE gamertag to Sign in.

    2) Proceed to Settings and then select Account.

    3) Select Manage Payment Options, and then choose either of the following:
    • If you want to add a new credit card, select Add Credit Card.
    • If you want to use your PayPal account on Xbox LIVE, select Add PayPal. You will be required to enter your PayPal username and password. Follow the instructions to add PayPal as a payment option. You cannot use PayPal as a payment option for the 2 year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract. PayPal is not available in all regions.
    4) After making changes to payment options, select Update Payment Option.

Add or Change a payment option on Xbox.com

    1) Go to My Account.

    2) Select Payments and Billings and click on Manage Payment Options.

    3) You may be required to Sign in using your Microsoft account (email and password).

    4) Proceed to do either of the following:

If you want to edit a payment option, select Edit.

If you want to add a payment option, you can do either of the following:
    • Click on Add New Credit Card and enter the credit card information
    • Click on PAY with PayPal and follow the instructions.

xbox live rewards credits have became money but how do you spend it

When purchasing something, you have the option of changing the payment option. You can't use your Microsoft Account credits unless the price of what you're buying is less than or equal to the credit you have on your Microsoft account.

I have $23 and change in my Microsoft Account. I can buy RE4 for $19.99 using my Microsoft Account credits. I cannot buy Skyrim for $29.99 using my Microsoft Account credits. The option is greyed out on the change payment screen.

Call Xbox phone support and ask them to remove your credit card. You can add them back on after you've removed them. That should do it! Xbox support numbers here:

Why is there a need for a payment terms if there is local currency on an account? December 2013 I was still able to purchase games now MS changed the Terms and conditions and users without credit Card or paypal account can´t purchase games even with prepaid
    load on their account.

I never agreed to any update like this. I want my money to be refunded.

Games With gold only credit card

    Hey ZEOALEXO,

When you click to buy something from the Xbox Marketplace it will give you a option to change your Payment Option. When you click to change the Payment Option there is a option called Account. The Account Option takes place of the Microsoft Points.

    Can't change payment options

    Hi xPinappleboy,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues changing your payment options when checking out from Xbox store.

First, let's clear the cache of your Xbox by performing a power cycle. In this process, we can ensure that your power supply will restart. Kindly follow the steps below.

    1. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off.

    2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 50 seconds.

Important: Make sure that you wait at least 50 seconds. This step resets the power supply.

    3. Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the Xbox button on your controller.

If you don't see the green boot-up animation when the console restarts, repeat these steps. Make sure that you hold the power button until the console completely shuts down.

Important If your console is in Sleep mode, the above steps will shut the console off completely. Sleep mode, or the ability to turn on your console by saying "Xbox on," won't be enabled until you restart the console. Once the system boots up, try again.

As part of our isolation, have you tried to checkout through https://www.xbox.com/ using a web browser such as Microsoft Edge? If not, kindly try it as some users who had similar issues are reporting that this method worked for them as a workaround.

    Regards,

    Alvaro

Hello there, this is an easy thing to do. You can access your payment methods online by signing in here and going to settings and payment and billing and edit them, you can
remove them there, however, if you currently are subscribed to anything like gold or game pass you will have to go to your subscriptions and cancel them first. Or alternatively follow the steps below

Note: If you’re trying to the remove a payment option that's tied to a Microsoft subscription with recurring billing, like Xbox Live Gold, Xbox Game Pass, or Office 365, it can't be removed until you change how you pay for the subscription. For the steps
to do this, see How to change your Microsoft subscription payment method and options.

    • Remove a payment option online:

Sign in to the Payment options page with the Microsoft account that has the payment option you want to remove. If you’re having issues
signing in to your Microsoft account, go to Microsoft account help.

Find the payment option you want to remove, and then select Remove.

Select Yes, remove to confirm that you want to remove the payment option.
    • Remove a payment option on Xbox One:

Sign in to an Xbox One console with the Microsoft account you want to add the payment option. If you’re having issues signing in to your Microsoft account, go to Microsoft
      account help

Press the Xbox X on a sphere Xbox logo button on your controller to open the guide.

Select Settings Gear-shaped Settings icon > Account > Payment & billing.

On the Payment options screen, scroll right to the payment option you want to update, then select Remove.

Select Yes, Remove to confirm payment option removal.
