Can't change install location on Xbox app for pc

So I i'm trying to install a game that I just bought on my D: drive but whenever I try to change it in the install prompt nothing changes it still installs to C:

So then I tried searching for it and found that I should just go into gerneral settings and change install location, easy right? NO!

I kept trying and trying and trying but everytime I would change it as soon as I then went to install the game it would still install to C: despite being set to D: just moments before. Then when I go to check if it is still set to D: it is not. So it keeps changing back to the C: drive.

Do you know if your D: drive is NTFS? Xbox App only allow games to be installed on NTFS partitions.

- Go to Start > Computer > Right Click the drive you wish to check > Properties.

- In the Disk Properties window, you will see it next to File system.

If it's FAT32, just convert it to NTFS:

Open a command prompt window by typing Command prompt in the Windows search box. Right click on it and Run as administrator. Type:

convert D: /fs:ntfs

Press Enter to being the process.

The file system conversion process should not take very long and the on-screen details are fairly intuitive.

Once completed, your FAT32 drive will be converted to NTFS. Close the Command Prompt window and you’re all done.

If it still does not work, please try to change the folder permission on your D drive:

Press Windows + D to launch the File Explorer.

Go to your D: drive and find the WindowsApp or XboxGames folder (check on the Xbox App which folder it is using to install games).

Right-click on the folder and select Properties from the context menu.

Navigate to the Security tab and select Advanced.

Click on Continue in the Permissions tab of the Advanced Security Settings window.

Select Change.

Click Advanced in the Select User or Group window.

Click on Find Now.

Select your user account from the list at the botton and click on OK.

Click OK in the Select User or Group window.

Click on Apply to save the changes.

Select OK in the Windows Security prompt that appears.

Finally, click OK to close the window.

After making the changes, restart the computer and check if you can now save the games to the selected drive. Let me know how it goes.

Similar problem. Solution did not work. Partitions are ntfs, but some drives do not allow me to change folder. they will show up in settings- general-drive letter in gamepass app. but not have option to change folder underneath option to select drive. I presume that it's a permission error, and followed Lucas' instructions, no bueno.

I also selected new apps installed to this drive from within windows settings and reinstalled xbox app so that it installed to this drive.

Thanks for replying The Xbox app on PC installs games to the C: drive by default.
Although you can change the default installation location in the app's settings, some users have also told me that the app still returns to the C: drive by default. This could be a bug or a problem with the app.
