Can't change install folder for xbox app (beta)

Hi,

I recently subscribed to xbox gamepass and wanted to download my first game. I have two drive on my pc but my boot drive is to small to install games on it. therefore I wanted to change the install folder on my D drive. But when I go and change the "new
app will be saved to" option I get a message that this drive as app from another device and that it needs to be deleted. So I accept and I get the following error message.

"We couldn't set your default save location..." error code 0x80070005

Changing install folder should not be so damn hard, can anyone help me with this?

Either format that drive or buy a external hard drive and use

Thanks for the reply.

I have already tried to take ownership of the file to delete it. But when I try to delete it I get this message

"An unexpected error is keeping you from deleting the folder. if you continue to receive this error... Error 0x80070780: the file cannot be accessed by the system."

So then I click on try again and I get Folder access denied

So I give admin permission clicking on the little shield icon, and I get the first message again...

What is the problem?

The error "this drive has apps from another device and that it needs to be deleted". is a common access denied error and error code 0x80070005 is a Windows
access denied error code.

It suggests to me that the D:\ drive already has Windows Apps installed from a previous PC or a previous Windows installation.

Have you either performed a fresh Windows 10 install recently or moved a hard drive from another machine into this one that used to have Windows Applications installed to the D:\ drive?

All Windows Apps including games are installed to a hidden protected folder called WindowsApps. The WindowsApps folder on the C: drive will be located in
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps. On other drives on the PC it will be in the root directory of the drive, so for D:\ it will be
D:\WindowsApps

To use your D:\ drive again you'll need to take control of this hidden folder on your D:\ drive, and delete it.Take a look at

this guide.

Remember however, that in your case you need to take permission of the WindowsApps folder on D:\ drive, there is no need to change anything on the WindowsApps folder on C:\ drive. Everything else in the guide is the same.

that is just avoiding the problem really, I won't buy another drive just so I can use this stupid xbox app properly

TEMPORARY FIX:

renaming the windowsapp folder into something else allowed me to create an other windowsapp folder. Now I can install games to my D drive.

Only problem is that I have an unused windowsapps folder that I still can't delete.
