Cant change gamertag

Bought a game yesterday to find out upon launch that I have automatic gamertag. When I tried to change it, it said I have to pay $9.99 to change a gamertag I didn't choose. So I was wondering if there can be anything done since it does say you can change
it once for free if your gamertag is automatically generated.

That's the unfortunate thing about where i live (Australia), you cant buy 800msp on it's own. we only sell 1500msp, 2000msp or 3000msp. 1500msp here cost $25.

The free gamertag change is only available if you were given a randomly generated tag when you created your account and are changing that tag for the first time. If you randomly had a gamertag show up after previously having one you chose, then it sounds
like you were given a forced gamertag change. In that case, you would need to go to http://enforcement.xbox.com to find out why and to see about submitting a case review.

Could it be possible you have an enforcement name change on your account. If you do you wont get a free change and will need to pay the fee to change it as per the code of conduct

I think the enforcement team may have forced changed your gamertag because it violated the CoC, you will not be eligible for a free change if a forced change was made.

Hey Smi1e, sorry to hear that! How are you connected to your network currently? Have you tried simplifying your connection at all? You could try connecting directly to the modem, for instance, to see if that allows you to download content.

You do get a free gamertag switch if it is a new account and the gamertag is not one you created.

If your gamertag was created for you when you initially signed up for Xbox (meaning you did not choose it yourself), you can change it one time for free. Additional Xbox gamertag changes cost extra. If you created your own gamertag at signup and want
to change it, you will be charged (fee varies by region and currency). copied from

If was changed by enforcement then yes you would need to pay for another change due to it violated the terms of service.

It allows me to choose other random names, but i tried it on an old account I have and it says it will work just not sure why it doesnt work with this one. Is it because it’s new account? It feels like a glitch to me because I can look up the gamertag
and it will say no one has it.
