    Can't Change Gamertag


    I was attempting to change my gamer tag for the first time. The one I want is available but every time I attempt I receive the following error code:

    Not sure why I am getting an error message. Also I thought you get one free change, maybe that is the reason there is an issue?

    Hi I'm from Mexico and I'm trying to change my gamertag since some weeks buying it with paypal or with debit card but it seems like I just can't, I really need some help, this error keeps popping out:

    Can't change gamertag

    When I try to change my gamertag, it tells me the gamertag is available. It then asks me to "claim it!" so I clicked on that. I set my payment method as my xbox account which has sufficient funds in it. Then I click confirm to purchase and I get this:

    Something went wrong

    I have tried this 4-5 times starting last night more than 12 hours ago, and I still receive the same error.

    How can I confirm purchase to change my gamertag?

    It looks like an issue with your payment method, so you may want to contact support and speak to billing. 1-800-4my-xbox if you're in the US/Canada or Contact Us | Xbox Support

    The free change is only available if you were given a randomly generated tag when you created your account and are changing that tag for the first time. Since the tag you're posting with is not a randomly generated tag, then you would need to pay to change
    it.

    Can't change Gamertag???

    This depends by your console region.

    If you are in the US you should select US as
    your Locale     (region) and, of course, add a billing address.

    Make sure your console is set to the correct Locale so you will be able to use the proper address.

    Also, make sure to update the
    billing information     on your microsoft account. It might take some hours to correctly update.

    It could be that for some reason a particular part of that gamertag has some weird abbreviation. I did a quick search of the name through various translators and I can't find anything offensive. I'm not sure why that name is being flagged. However since
    that's the case there's not much you can do. Your only option now is choosing something else.
