Can't change gamertag due to error code 80190843

The whole gamertag changing process goes fine until the final confirmation. After I press confirm, my 360 gives me error code 80190843 and a website to look up this error code. I looked it up and got no solutions?! Does anybody know of a solution to this
problem?

Hey everyone,

So after about 5 months of having problems with my Xbox Live account (see here:

http://forums.xbox.com/xbox_forums/xbox_support/f/12/t/1586831.aspx), my account has finally been fixed and Microsoft was kind enough to give me an 800 MSP code (which transferred to local currency) and 5 months of Xbox Live Gold; I decided to change my
gamertag.

I currently have a credit card on my account, which I can use to purchase items. Great. But I have $36.90 on my MS account, and when I sign into commerce.microsoft.com, the balance when I first log in says "You have $0.90", then glitches and changes to "You
have $36.90" (which is my actual balance).

When I'm on Xbox and go to Settings --> Account --> Manage Payment Options, at the top it says "Microsoft Account: $0.91" in grey, meaning I can't select that option to pay. So two problems here. One, I can't use my Microsoft Account money to purchase items,
and two, the balance is short $36.00...

Any help is greatly appreciated as I really want to change my gamertag, but I cannot...

I am sorry to see that you are having this problem. If you could clear your system cache. This can be done by going to: Settings, System, Storage, Hover over your hard-drive(memory device) and click (Y) on the controller. Please then select Clear system
cache. Do this 2-3 times to ensure that its completely cleared. After that, please go to your main storage device and go to system items. While there find Market Place data. Please delete that (You will not loos anything). Lastly, please do a network test.
Ensure that everything has passed. Then, please restart your Xbox and try again.

"ALL" Of the following Solutions. If you have done all of the following solutions and you keep getting the error code message, I suggest using the Contact
Us page to set up a support call with a billing specialist. They'll be able to look through your account with you and check for any hold-ups.

Solutions

To resolve this problem, try the following solutions:

Solution 1: Check your billing address

Make sure the billing address for your Xbox LIVE account matches the billing address used by your credit card company. Also, the credit card must be from a country that matches the country associated with your Xbox LIVE account. To change the billing address
for your Xbox LIVE account, see Change your Xbox LIVE account information.

Note You cannot change the country associated with your Xbox LIVE account after your account is created.

If you keep getting the error, try the next solution.

Solution 2: Contact your bank or financial institution

The Xbox LIVE purchase might have failed for the following reasons:

• The credit card has not been activated.
• The credit card was declined due to insufficient funds.
• The credit card cannot accept online purchases or automatic billing.
• The credit card company is intentionally preventing the card from being used.
  

Contact your credit card company or bank and make sure that the card you’re using was activated, that it has available funds, and that the transaction isn’t being blocked for some reason.

If you keep getting the error, try the next solution.

Solution 3: Try your purchase again later

The Xbox LIVE purchase might be blocked for one of the following reasons:

• Too many recent declined purchase attempts.
• The Xbox LIVE account or the payment option is being used from an incorrect location.
  
• The payment option you provided may have a violation for non-payment that’s preventing it from being used for new purchases.
  

Wait and try the transaction again in 24 to 48 hours. When lots of purchase failures occur, this can prevent transactions from being processed until no purchase attempts have been made for a while (usually 24 to 48 hours).

If you keep getting the error after 48 hours, try the next solution.

Solution 4: Use an Xbox gift card if available

Alternatively, you can buy an Xbox gift card from a retail location and redeem it for Xbox LIVE purchases.

Note Not all purchases support Xbox gift cards. Before purchasing an Xbox gift card, make sure that you can purchase the item you want with it.

 

Did exactly as you said and still have the problem. Also I don't have market place data file anymore. Do I need to get it back and if so how? Thanks

Don't worry, the Market Place data file will not effect anything for personal use. You will not need to get it back and over time the file will regenerate with recent Market Place data. However, since the following I provided did not work; please contact

I have had this problem for about a year. I have repeatedly been told all of the above options by customer service. Once you have followed the instructions you ring them back to say it still doesnt work and all they do is ask you to rinse and repeat.. endlessly..
for a YEAR.

NO HELP WHATSOEVER. NO SOLUTION OFFERED EVER.

Just keep doing the same pointless rinse and repeat.

I wouldnt mind but search the forums and www and this problem has been around for years but EVERY customer service rep I speak to has no idea or record of this error code!

You would think by now will the amount of people calling about this they would have fixed it by now.

I will not be getting an XBOX one as much as I would have chosen to. I will be getting a PS4! Yes by Sony.. even though they are likely to get hacked again and lose all my money to some credit card fraudsters. Yes even though its pretty d a m n ugly.

It is still better than dealing with xbox customer service over one tiny little problem for A WHOLE YEAR.

And if microsoft ask me to confirm my stupid email and xbox accounts and update my proofs and check my emails, phone,under the bed, up the dogs backside.. for sodding security codes one more time..

 

Well thats that.. an hour on chat support (AGAIN) to be told its my banks fault. I can purchase dlc's, xbox live, games, but apparently my bank doesn't want to process a transaction for a gamer name change!!

Seriously.. thats the best you can come up with?

I would LOVE to know how my bank knows the difference between a payment to microsoft for a dlc or xbox live gold and a gamertag purchase!

And WHY THE HELL WOULD THEY CARE! I can just see them now.. ohh he wants to change his gamertag.. should we let him? As if the automated payment system has someone watching it 24/7 for my gamertag transaction.. and hitting NO really quickly!

My god people.. come up with a much better excuse for 'we dont know why the hell this doesnt work'
