Can’t change email or add

I bought an Xbox for my kids while they were still minors. Now that they are moving out I’m trying to add their email address to the account and remove mine. Can’t do it AT ALL, keep getting an error saying it’s too frequent. I only have one email attached to the account. So their excuse of it’s too early doesn’t make sense. The first CSR said wait 24 hours. FOUR DAYS LATER I’m told to wait longer but no one can tell me how long I need to wait before I try again. The fact they will also complete delete MY email account if I delete it from the Xbox is NUTS.

How did the rest of the people having this issue that has posted questions resolved this?

Have you tried adding the email as an alias to the account or as an update security option? If you haven't, tried the alias route, I would recommend that. You can simply add the email on to the account (or create a new @outlook.com email address) and remove the other.

You can do this in the following steps

Go to account.microsoft.com
Log in with the account you're attempting to change
Once logged in, click the Your Info section at the top
and then click the Edit account info button about half way down on the page on the right-hand side
You may need to reverify the account at this step as you are editing core details
Click the add email at the bottom and type in the email you wish to add
This is also where you can create a new email address
Once added, you can remove the old email immediately

Couple things to note

Any subscriptions or purchases that were done through the history of the account are stilled tied to it. We cannot migrate purchases, Gamerscore, or anything of that nature from one account to another. This means you can't split the account amongst two users. A new account would have to be created from scratch for the second user with a brand-new purchase history
The Xbox Live profile will be untouched, so the Gamer Tag and owned games will still be under this account
The password will remain the same unless you choose to change it. Just the email address used to log into the account will change
If you are adding an account outside of Microsoft (Gmail, apple, yahoo, etc) you will need to verify it to complete having it added to the account. A secure verification email will be sent to the new email address about half way through this process

Hope this helps. One other thing to keep in mind is that you should also update the security settings for the account. This can be done at the same page linked above but under the Security tab at the top. This ensures that each user can recover their account without issue in the future. This might also be where you are getting the frequent error mentioned above as you can only link the same email/phone number to a handful of accounts before our security system kicks back saying you can't link it to any more.

Did you just give me false information? Because I’ve tried that and XBOX live said they can’t do anything on the accounts. They can’t access the email, or change the email. They can’t do anything to give me access to the gamertag according to the person that called me. They said only Microsoft and outlook can do anything about it as the email can only be changed by logging into it which i can’t do because the email is locked…

Have you tried to go into your Microsoft account and clicking edit profile from the drop down menu below your name on your microsoft account home page? Then click

"Manage your sign-in email or phone number" and change it form there?
