Can't change email associated with account

Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. We understand that you are experiencing difficulties with being able to change the alias of your account.

Its worth noting that if you are receiving a message that states that the email is already taken, it is likely that this is already associated with another account. The only way for you to use that email would be to access that account and change the email
that is associated with that account first, and then update your personal account.

In addition to this, if an email you use or created is unavailable, chances are you may have accidentally associated with a Microsoft account in the past.

The key here would be to first try to access that account, and if you are unable, you can attempt to

reset your password.

Once that is done, you can attempt to
change the email of the account in order to free up that email to use on another account. Keep in mind that you will need to verify the email you add first in order to set it as the primary alias.

An easy way to do this would be to choose the option to create an email on the "change email" screen. This will supersede the requirement to verify as it is already created with a Microsoft domain. This should allow you to remove the email you want to use
and add it to your other account.

You can't merge two accounts. Changing the email associated with the accounts is the only possibility

If you are using a Microsoft email address for your account (outlook.com, live.com, hotmail.com etc) you can't change as you would lose everything else associated with that account and it deletes forever. If you are using non Microsoft email addresses,
you can change the email address associated with your account for his.

You can't switch gtags among different accounts. The only possible change is the ability to change the email address associated with your account

Unless you have access to the email associated with your account you can't do that change.
