Can't change download location of xbox games

Hello everyone. I'm having issues downloading games from the XBOX app on my computer to my external HDD.

The steps I have taken so far are:

In the XBOX app:

Settings;

General;

Change where games are installed by default;

Selection my D: drive;

After I completed those steps, I return the game I want to download and when the pop-up comes it only has my internal storage as an option.

I have been able to download a few games to my external drive so I know its not a compatibility issue.

I hope you are doing well today. Welcome to the Xbox Community. You are having issues with installing PC Game Pass games on your external drive, where the app is not recognizing the secondary drive. Let me provide you with a few suggestions that will hopefully resolve your issue.

How to format a USB flash drive or external storage device to NTFS on Windows | Xbox Support Please make sure that the drive you are using is formatted to NTFS, because if not. You will not be able to install games on the drive.

Once you have done this, please attempt to install a small game and let me know if that resolve the problem.

Which game is it

If it is xbox 360 or og xbox you can't change it as it's locked to your physical location

And changing it will not let you download the game

This includes.playing via xcloud

Xbox 360 games still have to abide by the xbox 360 marketplace rules

It still doesn't, I also tried changing the default download location within the xbox app to the other drive, but when I try and download those larger games it still says I can't choose the other drive.

Unfortunately you can't change the download location of an item that is already downloading, that is a shortcoming of the Xbox 360's Operating System. However, there is a work-around. What you need to do is choose to download something else first, like
a demo or a trial arcade game. Then add the actual game or DLC that you really want as a second download.

The second download will be queued. Go to the queued download and via the options on screen, change the download location to your USB device. Now stop the first download. All being well, the item that was queued will now start downloading directly to the
USB device.

Hmmm, it should be able to DL to that USB drive. Can you try clearing the console's cache and then downloading a game demo to it, and see if that behaves better? Just to make sure the console is reading it right!
