Can't change account settings

So I have a friend who recently migrated his Mojang account to a Microsoft account. The problem is that his account has multiplayer blocked and he cant change the setting because his account is either a child account or in a family group(I'm pretty sure it is a child account). He does not remember what email the parent account might be tied to. How can I help him retrieve access to the account?

If you know the email address that you used to set up your Microsoft account (which is used to sign in to your Xbox account), you can skip this tutorial and reset your password now:

1. Go to Reset your password and enter your email address. Reset your password
   
2. tell Microsoft where you’d like us to send a security code (email or phone number).
   
3. Once you receive your security code, you’ll be prompted to choose a new password and enter it twice. Passwords should be at least 8 characters long and should contain a mix of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
   

Note that you must have your Microsoft account email address to reset your password. If you’ve forgotten this email address, you’ll need to recover it before you reset your password.

f you’re unable to access any of the contact methods used to receive a security code, you can still access your Microsoft account by completing an online account recovery form. To access this form, see:

1. Enter your Email, phone, or Skype name in the first box if you know it.
   
2. In the Contact email address text box, type an email address where we can contact you or send your password reset link. Note that this email address should be different from the one you’re trying to recover.
   
3. In the third text box, type the characters displayed on the screen. This is to verify that you aren’t a robot.
   
4. To help maintain the security of your Microsoft account, you’ll be prompted for several pieces of identification info that you provided when you initially set up your account. Fill in as many of the boxes as you can.

Unfortunately no. The only way to change your Home setting is to be able to sign into the account. Since you can't sign into it, you can't change the Home setting.

• Sign into Xbox Live. You must be online and signed in to make changes.
  
• You’re signed in to the console using an adult account. Children and teens are restricted from

Sorry but once a birthdate is set on an account it can't be changed.
