Cant buy xbox live subscription using my xbox gift card balance

Hi everyone, I just bought a gift card only to renew my xbox live's one year subscription. However, when I try to check out, only credit card is shown as a payment option. Is it true that you
can't buy a live subscription using your gift card balance. If it is, how can I talk to a microsoft's representative to fix my problem since I don't want anything else from the store, just my xbox live subscription? Thanks

XBOX Live Gift Cards

Hi All,

Forgive my ignorance, but my wife just bought $60 gift cards that certainly appear to be for a 12 month XBOX Live Gold Subscription.

Our intent was to buy gift cards for my nephews that they can spend whatever they want.

Do the gift cards have to be spent on the Gold subscription, or can they be spent elsewhere?

Enter the codes, buy from the MS online store for £45 each. Works out at £36.75 when you do the maths.

It's true. Gold can only be purchased via credit card/Paypal or by purchasing a prepaid gold card in a store. It's never been possible to use your Microsoft account balance as a payment option for gold since it is not set up for a recurring subscription.
You can try contacting support, but they will not be able to use that currency towards gold for you. 1-800-4my-xbox if you're in the US/Canada or

Did you buy a 10 dollar gift card or did you buy a one month xbox live gold subscription card?

These are 2 different cards

The gift card puts 10 dollars onto your Microsoft account balance. If this was the case you can check you balance by going into settings and under the account tab go to payment options and will show you the balance there. You would then have to go to microsoftstore.com
and purchase a one month xbox live subscription card during checkout it will allow you to use the Microsoft account balance it will then give you a new 25 digit code to enter in for one month of live.

The live subscription card would give you one month of live. If this was the case you can check your subscription status again in settings under the account tab and subscriptions if it shows an active subscription that you just put in then you can try powercycling
the console by holding down the power button on front of console for about 10 seconds for it to shut off then unplug it for about a minute. Once you plug it back in and sign back in you should be able to use the gold subscription

I would just use the Pre-Paid card to buy an Xbox Live Gift card and add a balance to my account so that way it deducts the money from my account without having to worry about the card.

You have never been able to use gift cards/account funds to buy a xbox live gold subscription.

They are used to buy digital content,games,dlc,movies etc.

You need an actual xbox live subscription card,a credit/debit card or paypal account to buy a gold subscription.
