    I live in Ireland and i got microsoft points today and i decided to buy a xbox 360 game on the store but it said to use with a credit card

    buying anything with your Microsoft account money

    why is it that you can't buy backwards compatible games with your Microsoft account money but you can buy dlc content

    However it said when I try and buy a backward compatible game that it does not accept Microsoft points how ever I can buy other normal games

    Yep that would be correct.not an error

    You can only use currency if you had a 360 console

    The one doesn't actually use the 360 interface but the webportal which still uses a payment method

    A valid payment method is required to make purchases or to receive the GwG (Games with Gold.) If you have a valid payment method registered on file with currency on the account, it will prompt you to use the currency before using the card.

    Side Note: Microsoft Points was retired a couple years ago and switched to localized currency.

    Also you can not buy backwards compatible games on xbox one with microsoft reward points or gift cards.

    Are you trying to buy One games or backwards compatible games? The Microsoft account balance cannot be used to purchase backwards compatible content on the One.
