Can't assign Static IP

Hello, Xbox

I'm under a Carrier-Grade NAT with a private IP, making Port Forwarding impossible. I've now gotten a public static IP from my ISP to fix it. But when I enter the settings (IP, Subnet, Gateway, DNS, DNS) that my ISP has given me into the Xbox, it says ''Can't
connect to Static IP''. Anyone know why?

NAT Status keeps changing - even though my settings have not?

Make sure you assign a static IP to the Xbox One before dmz or portforwarding

portforward.com/.../static-ip-xbox-one

Then why have you assign static IP for your Internet/public IP address, if you're not assign such an address from your ISP?

 

The static public IP goes into the WAN interface of whatever router who is neigboring with your ISPs router. Normally the WAN settings for DHCP would function as a DHCP client towards your ISPs DHCP server. The LAN interface of your router is still using
its DHCP server, to lease addresses to devices on your private network.

May I ask, is the IP address from your ISP in fact a public IP, or is it just a private address that they've configured as a fixed one?

 

What is the make and model of your modem?

If your router is still doing NAT, which I think it does, then it'll take that one public IP (static) and overload it to many private addresses (according to your subnet mask).

It would make sense that your Xbox One has to go through the translatation table of your router's NAT.

 

1) These are the settings the Support guy from the ISP sent me to enter into the Xbox (not sure how much is needed to answer your question):

IP address: 10.108.xx.x

Netmask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 10.108.xx.x

DNS servers: 80.71.xxx.xx, 80.71.xxx.xx

And the public IP address (which I would get with the above settings): 80.71.xxx.xx

2) I don't know. Isn't the ISP controlling the modem/second router in these double NAT/CGN scenarios? We don't seem to have something else besides the router.

The ISP Support guy simply told me I could either configure my router with the settings above, or enter them into one computer/Xbox to only have that device get the public IP. I can't get the public IP to work on my computer either.

 

Try and plug the Xbox straight into the modem and bypass the router , reboot everything and test nat again , if still not open , I would look for a new isp. ...

 

Before we proceed any further, could you provide the make and model of your modem, and we'll work from there.

 

Which device does your D-Link terminates into?

 

We use fiber internet. From the looks of it we don't use a modem. It just goes into the wall.

 

You would normally have a fiber switch which feeds off of a fiber converter.

Eitherway, login to your D-Link's web-utility interface.

Go to WAN/Internet settings and lookup the WAN/Internet IP address.

Could you post up this address. Only the first two octets.

WAN IP: 10.108

LAN IP: 192.168

 

All the WAN stuff is the same as the info the ISP gave me because I tried to configure the entire router as static, just to see what would happen. For some reason the info stayed in the router even though it's back in dynamic lol. But the addresses were
private before that too, hence why I needed the public IP.

 

Struggle Goad, Those are both internal IP numbers. It appears that your ISP has given you a static IP number on their internal network which means they are probably doing NATing on their end.

 

The ISP guy said Xbox needed a public IP to work and then gave me the settings to use. Guess he's just an idiot? He said the settings would make me appear with the 80.71.xxx.xx IP - which, to my knowledge, is a public IP.

I thought I could just enter the IP address, Gateway etc. he gave me into my Xbox and then reserve that IP in my router. But it doesn't work when I enter it into the Xbox.
