Can't add son's gamertag to my xbox live gold account

Hello Mick. Yes this is possible through the Home Xbox feature in settings. To do this, add your account to your son's Xbox. While signed into your account open the settings menu and go to General>Personalization>My Home Xbox, and select set this
as my home Xbox. You can now sign out of your account. This will allow your son to play your games and use your gold subscription without having to sign into your account on that Xbox.

i left one tidbit out. My son wishes to use my gamertag with the Gold subscription here on out.

So after that, my son can just carry on with my gamertag and I can create a new one for my living room xbox? Then we can both play differering Gold games online at the same time?

In this case would i still be setting his xbox as the home xbox? Currently my living room xbox is the home xbox that I always played on with my gamertag.

I hope this isnt getting too confusing. I know I’m confused for sure.

Sort of an add on question - can my sons have separate gamertags from me under a single Live Gold account or does each tag have to have its own account? The reason I ask is that some stuff they are okay with accessing (I use the parent controls) and some
is not okay and would also like their gamertag to be separate from mine.

As others say to you, you can easily share your Xbox Live Gold subscriptions.

Power On your Son's Console -> Download your Profile (you need email and password of your gamertag/account) -> navigate to Settings page and set your Son's Console as HOME for your Gamertag.

In this way your Son can use your Xbox Live Gold and play online without problems.

Your Son have also access to your game/DLC library (digital purchase).

If you purchased a Gold membership on your gamertag then it cannot be transferred. However you could try contacting phone support. They may be able to cancel the membership on your account and send you a code to add it to your son.

However, if you have an Xbox One console then you can add your son to your Family on that console and share the gold membership with him.

Unfortunately, you can't transfer Gold memberships like that.

On the Xbox One the "Home Console" can share the Gold membership to other accounts on that very console, but the Xbox 360 console can't do that.

You need to either buy a separate Gold membership for your son via Prepaid Gold cards, or subscribe to the Gold membership with his account.
