  1. Can't access backwards compatibility to enable fps boost

So it's been over 2 months now that I haven't been able to access compatibility options to enable fps boost some games like ufc 4 have it enabled automatically, but games like farcry 5 and battlefield need fps boost to be enabled manually, now I've also reported this issue multiple times and I have received no response, I also have contacted MS support in the past, they haven't been of much help either, I've done things like leaving the Insiders program and factory reseting it didn't fix anything, but I had another issue along with the unavailability of the compatibility options, that's is I was missing two dynamic backgrounds, the original and the emotes dynamic backgrounds, day before yesterday i finally got into the delta ring and I now have those themes, so it's definitely a software issue and not hardware, I also can't open the xbox assist app, everytime I open it I'll be stuck on blank Grey screen.

Question: Fable 2 FPS Boost Patch?

As far as I'm aware the FPS boost feature was performed by the backwards compatibility team. However, since the BC program has ended and the team has been disbanded, there are no current plans we are aware of for more FPS boost enabled titles.

This boost feature is quite complicated to implement, it's not like with a PC game where you increase the frame rate by changing some settings in a configuration file. If it were that easy, hundreds more games would have had this feature.

Far Cry 5 seems very laggy, glitchy on Xbox series x.

    Hi,

Have you enabled FPS boost for this game? The default settings for Far Cry 5 runs the game at 30 fps (30 frames per second). This game has an 'FPS Boost' option that allows you to play this game at a much smoother 60fps.

    • On Xbox Series X, go to My Games and Apps
    • Select Far Cry 5 and choose Manage Games & Add Ons
    • Choose Compatibility Options, then select FPS Boost
    • Enable FPS Boost for Far Cry 5
    • Launch the game.

Why don't ALL games take advantage of FPS boost?

    Hi,

As far as I'm aware, FPS boost was part of the Xbox backwards compatibility project, a project that has unfortunately been discontinued. No more BC team means no more games with FPS boost.

It's was not as simple as putting a bit of code into a game and unlocking the frame rate. Not a simple fix at all. If it had of been, hundreds of games would have had the boost applied. Sometimes upping the frame rate on certain games can actually break a game. I've seen this issue on older PC titles.

This is a community forum, so we can't say for sure if Microsoft will enable FPS boost on more games in the future, but for now at least that's not the case.

For Xbox One games like RDR2, it's up to the developer now to release a patch/update to make their game run at a higher frame rate.

Why did the fps boost program end?

    Hi,

As I understand it, the FPS boost work was completed by the same team that worked on the now defunct backwards compatibility program. No BC team, no FPS boost.

It's now up to original game developers to patch or otherwise re-release their games with faster frame rates.

No FPS Boost for Shadow of the Tomb Raider

    Hi,

I believe there is some confusion between 'Optimised for Series X|S' and FPS boost. When a game is optimised for Series X|S, it means that a game update was released from the developer of that particular game to boost it's graphics and performance. Optimised games will not have an FPS boost option in compatibility settings.

The recent update to Shadow of the Tomb raider increased the game resolution to 4K (using dynamic rendering) increasing the frame rate at 4K to 60 fps. The Xbox One X version of the game only runs at 30 fps in 4K.

FPS boost is a game modification made by Microsoft's own BC team, the developer doesn't provide this boost. Some Xbox One games with FPS boost have it enabled by default, others (usually the 120Hz enabled titles) do not.

Like I said earlier, Optimised games do not have an FPS boost option as the performance has been increased by the developer.

    I hope that makes sense.
