Cannot send new chat messages to people.

I am experiencing an issue trying to send new people a message. Every time I visit the sidebar on an xbox one profile and I try to send a message, the left side produces a gray bar and no text appears. I can still message previous conversations I had but
cannot create a new one. I tried restarting my xbox and I made sure that there were not any bans on my account. What do I do?

Having the same exact problem. Tried everything and nothing is fixing it.

I have original xbox one. I am not in Insider/Preview Program.

I have turned xbox off and restarting and doing power cycle. Nothing works.

Are you in the Insider/Preview Program?

Have you tried waiting on the grey screen for a minute? Nothing happens?

Have you tried turning off your Xbox completely for 30 seconds and restarting?

I have neither apps. I did see that on my friends list. They have an area marked for one of the buttons to send a message which provides a text box in the center of the screen. But, that is only for friends. For people that are not my friends, I try to
hit the area marked "Send message" and only a gray bar running vertical down the left side of the screen shows up.

Cannot send new chat messages to people.
