Cannot redeem older Microsoft Points card (1600 pts)

I found an older 1600 Microsoft Points card that I bought a while back, but when I tried redeeming it just now, I got the following error:

Check the instructions that came with your code. You might need to redeem it on a different web page.

I tried redeeming the code either via xbox.com or on the console directly, but same error. What's wrong with it? I paid real money to purchase this points card, so it should never expire.

Using Microsoft points to purchase Xbox Live Gold

If I already redeemed the points and they are on my acct (1600 pts), how can I use that to purchase a one month Gold membership??

So my question is this, I just bought some 1600 pts cards can you use the points for the membership?

 

As Microsoft points were retired back in 2013 I would expect all existing codes out there have in fact expired. I would suggest contacting the retailer you purchased from if the purchase was recent

contact Xbox Customer Support
regarding this situation. Microsoft points were converted to regional currency a number of years ago. A representative should be able to check the code and provide you with any possible options.
