Cannot purchase "free" 360 games on Xbox one or Xbox.com

Every time I try to get a free 360 game, it says I have no payment option on file. It the proceeds to ask me for a credit card. I know it's for "age verification", but I don't own a credit card and I fail to see why I need to verify my age for a microsoft
account that I created with hotmail 20 years ago.

Hi, you cannot purchase xbox 360 games from xbox.com or xbox one using a Xbox gift card. Your only option is to purchase the game using an Xbox 360 or use a credit card on xbox.com instead.

The way that Xbox.com's Xbox 360 marketplace is built it only recognises credit/debit cards or PayPal accounts as valid payment methods, which is why you're running into this; it doesn't "see" the funds in your Microsoft Account.

If, however, you instead try to "purchase" the free game on an actual Xbox 360 console you will not run into this problem and it will allow you to add the game to your library, after which you can download the game on Xbox One.

A future update will allow you to purchase the game from your Xbox One console directly; it is currently in testing with the Preview Program.

Hey prime if you still own your 360 you can purchase the free game without a credit card. I have allready brought thus up to Microsoft and waiting for a reply cause if it can be done on the xbox 360 why not the one.

@bliz because you are accessing the 360 marketplace via Web portal due to the differences in settings for each

 

You can download 360 games with gold on the Xbox One but you still need a credit card number. It's a joke but I guess Microsoft wants ALL your money.

 

Even if you are accessing it through a web portal it should still be able to confirm your gold status and not require a credit card.

 

It's a pretty goofy problem to not have solved. Never owned a 360 so I guess I missed out on Borderlands and now I gues Dead Space.

I know it is required on the website i was talking about how you access 360 on xbox one through a webportal according to ngocp but its still 360 so i feel they should let it go about the credit card.

 

Nope same requirements as the webportal

Remember the emulator isn't. A full os or hardware there is no way to access their marketplace natively

Also xbox one marketplace settings aren't compatible due to different parental settings

There is no unrestricted account setting for child accounts on 360

 

But what about an adult account

 

You will only get that msg if you are an child account not adult privacy settimgs

Again you have to comply with the terms of use on child accounts
