Cannot play 2 player games

Hi we have an xbox s. We've setup 2 controllers and can use both controllers with no issues outside of a game. But if we choose a two player game for example PES or Fifa it does not allow us to select the second controller. In fact it doesnt acknowledge its there at all.

We know we must have done something silly but cannot figure this out. We've tried guest accounts etc.

Please help my kids can't play games together

No this is not answer. All the games tried have local co-op. In cloud gaming the 2nd remote is just not recognized when asked to join (yes both remotes logged in).

I am having the same problem as Kenny, some games work ok like nba2k but when trying to play halo or unravel can't get the second c9ntrol to do anything even though it is logged into my account (my husband's is the main) this is extremely frustrating when we want to play as a family and it seems that no one has an answer for this.

I am having the same issue today and wanting to play a game with my son who is player one and I am player two. We have the Xbox series S Console with the game It Takes Two installed on it. Yesterday we played the game together for about one hour and then it was bedtime. We tried again today and the player two controller is signed in as well as the player one controller is signed in but the player two controller will not join into the game. What is the cause of this and how can we fix it?

We are also having the same problem. The controller is working (can use it outside of the game and push the Xbox button in the game) but can't push A or whatever is required to start a two player game. Doesn't matter what controller we are using. We cannot play two player games.
