Cannot move Gamertag over to different Email.

Ok, this problem has bugged me for months now and it's got to the point where i can't take it anymore.

The thing is, i am trying to move my Gamertag over to a different email address because the one it is currently linked to is an email address that i no longer have access to because it was hacked and stolen from me. I don't like the thought of my Gamertag being
linked to an email that i no longer have any control over.

Now here is the main problem. Every time i attempt to change my Gamertag's email i get this message "sorry, we can't change your Microsoft account right now. For more info, go to Xbox.com/AccountSwap"

I don't get it, i have followed the instructions on this site perfectly about 20 times, what else can i possibly do ?

Please don't tell me to ring customer support because i did that and they had me on hold for 30 minutes and then when i did get through they just told me to do everything i had already done. After that i was put on hold for another 30 minutes before they decided
to hang up on me. I then rang them again and we went through exactly the same thing again and then i was put on hold again and then once again they hung up on me.

They clearly don't have the answer but i would appreciate it if they just told me instead of hanging up on me.

I have been on Google and had a look around and i have found that so many people have had this problem and none of them have found a solution.

There is clearly a serious issue here and it needs to be sorted.

unlink Windows live ID & Gamertag

Hi Jaguar!

Unfortunately you cannot unlink accounts - what is recommended here is to make a third "dummy" account, and use it to move your profile as follows:

"Old" Email

"New" Email

"Dummy" Email.

Move your gamertag from "New" Email to "Dummy" Email. Then move your gamertag from "Old" Email to "New" Email. At this point you can then just trash Dummy email, and your new email will have your old gamertag

Deleting an xbox live account

You cannot delete an Xbox Live account (Gamertag), but what you will need to do is move the Gamertag to a different Microsoft Account (email address), to free up the email address you want.

You don't mention if you have already gone to
http://account.live.com to change the email, you would sign in to this web page with the email and password for your gamertag, then you would go to "Aliases" and change the email from there.

 

Ok i have changed my primary Alias, now it says it could take upto 48 hours until the changes takes effect. After those 48 hours have passed can i then remove my old email address from my list of Aliases ?

 

you can actually remove it now, you have to make the email you just added the primary and then you can remove the email outright, and you would start using the new email as the one you sign in with to xbox.com or to your account on the console.

 

Ok, it's all done now, i can't see why they couldn't just tell me to do this when i rang customer support, but oh well. Thanks a lot
