Cannot log into Xbox app on Windows 11 with an alternative account

Getting very angry. Have tried requesting a call back - failed 5 times. The contact us page spins you in circles with ridiculous questions none of which are relevant but never offer the "none of the above" option. It then offers webchat but with no link. Pah.

The issue. I am setting up a new pc which came with windows 11. System: RTX3080 and 11th Gen Core i9.

I installed xbox from microsoft store, but it only allows me to log in. Every time I log out and click log in again, it skips the option to allow login from another account ie for my son. This is critical because we paid £89 for Forza on his account on the old pc and of course Microsoft only allow him to use it from his account! Don't get me started about how Microsoft still will not allow family sharing for expensive games like other companies!!!

I have read many blogs suggesting various solutions. So far I have:

1. repaired the app.

2. reset the app.

3. uninstalled and reinstalled the app.

4. used powershell.

5. Downloaded the app direct from the Xbox site rather than Microsoft Store.

6. installed and tried to set up the Insider program app to get the beta version of something that apparently improves on various long standing issues (like not being able to move games to external drives etc).

I have done the first 3 several times to no avail. Each time after a fresh install the app recognises me and offers a link to use an alternative account, but every time I click the separate link it simply ignores me and logs me back in as me, so back to the loop of logout, login but straight to my account with no option to choose an alternative.

Is this a glitch with Windows 11?

If not is there a fix?

Hi Ricardo - thanks for the suggestion. I had not heard about the xbox console companion app, but now that I have downloaded it, all I can say is why does this exist? Yes, after the 3rd attempt it did let me log in with my son's account, but it did not show any of his paid for games and when I clicked on the games showing as adverts it simply opened up Microsoft Store which was still logged in as me! And that would still not let me log in as him there. So I opened the standard Xbox app as well and although eventually after several more attempts on all 3 apps, the standard xbox app randomly let me log into my son's account, but it feels so pathetic, circular and unnecessary to have 4 different apps (Microsoft Store, Xbox app, Xbox companion and the other beta testing app) - FFS why can't they just make one decent app that actually works and does what we want as a community?

Yesterday in less than 30 mins I managed to re-verify over 10 games (amounting to several hundred gigabytes) from Epic and Origin, which I had been able to install via the old pc on an external drive. 30 mins and all working! But not with Microsoft.

Today I have spent hours researching possible solutions, none of which worked, fighting with software that is clearly flawed, chat and call back facilities that don't work and now a forum suggestion that also did not work. And now I have the prospect of having to download over 100Gb of Forza again, pus various other games, simply because Microsoft are so backward compared to the other gaming platforms. I know you were trying to help Ricardo, but I am at the end of my tether. If an organisation makes it their business to push out sub standard software then they ought to stump up the resources to fund the help facilities to fix things, though obviously prevention is better than cure - make it properly in the first place! Rant over - fingers crossed the software does not log my son out and I have start all over again.

You use the games the account doesn't have to be logged in the Xbox app but in the Microsoft store app, and the Xbox app can use any other account

If you try to log into your account the same error code 0x87DD0005 is displayed?

Try the solutions below to resolve this issue, please.

Solution 1: Make sure your windows are updated to the latest version, whether it's windows 10 or 11.

Solution 2: Make sure that the account in the Microsoft Store app and Xbox app are the same logged in both, in this case, the account that has the subscription.

Solution 3: Log out your Microsoft store account and also the Xbox app, now type the term WSRESET in the windows search bar and run the app as administrator, a window will open, wait for the window to close automatically and restart your computer, after that login your Microsoft Store account and Xbox app again.

If none of the above solutions resolve the issue, please try the alternatives provided in the video below.

Hey Lean Knight! I'm afraid you can only use one account here, you cannot sign into an alternate MS account in the Games App while logged into a different account on the computer. My suggestion here is to create a Windows 8 user login using your Xbox LIVE
