Cannot log in to xbox/microsoft acct from another device

Hello!

I have an XBox with Gold Live, a Win 11 PC, a Win 10 Laptop (family uses).

Family wanted XBox Ultimate Game Pass to play games on PC.

I upgraded to Ultimate. Verified.

Download XBox app to Laptop.

Kid logs in, no ultimate. It's his login.

I log him out. I log in with my account ...

Enter account email. Accepted.

Enter account password. Accepted.

Enter account PIN. NOT Accepted??

Go to my PC, test PIN. It works. Try again. It works. Same # dozens of times a day.

Go to laptop, enter pin. Fail. Enter PIN. Fail.

I don't know what to do from here. I cannot even find an option to change the PIN.

Downloaded XBox app to my PC, installed, Start.

Automatically logged in, shows ultimate, allows me to do anything.

Sign out of account. Manually change to sign in with different account. Log in again.

Enter account email. Accepted.

Enter account password. Accepted.

Does NOT ask for PIN, just logs me in.

Go back to Laptop, restart app, try to log in.

Enter account email. Accepted.

Enter account password. Accepted.

Enter account PIN. NOT Accepted!

Still clueless.

I do notice that when I'm on XBox account and click to move to Microsoft account the acct names do not match. My PIN is for Microsoft. I've never needed an XBox PIN. Are there 2 diff PINs? I don't know. Can't find anywhere to see/edit/change/remove a PIN for either type of account.

Find devices on Microsoft account. Laptop not listed. Go to add device. It will only allow me to add official Microsoft devices such as XBoxes, Surface, Surface Pro, etc. Cannot add a PC or Laptop as there is no option to. Unsure if this is needed or not.

Try to log in AGAIN on latop.

PIN still not accepted. Says something about needing to setup Microsoft Hello. Google what that is. Open Microsoft Hello settings and sign-in options. PIN already set, of course. It's the same PIN. Change PIN.

Try to log in on laptop.

PIN not accepted.

Frustrated.

Please help me find a way to log in.

I think this is a Windows Hello PIN being asked on the laptop. Would you please try to disable it?

- Go to Start > Settings > Accounts > Input options.

- Scroll down to the option "Require Windows Hello Sign In for Microsoft Accounts" and set it to disabled.

- On the Windows Hello PIN (above), click on remove. This will remove any PIN saved on Windows Hello for the account.

- If it asks for a password, confirm your Microsoft account password.

- Restart your computer.

- See if it asks for the PIN again and let me know.

About your devices. You should be able to add Windows 10 or 11 computers/laptops on your Microsoft account. My computer running Windows 10 is added on my devices page. Are you trying to add it by serial number?

So, I figured it out ...

When logging in to the XBox app on the family laptop, it did the following:

Asked for MY XBox/Microsoft login (not associated with laptop)

Asked for MY password (not associated with laptop)

Asked for PIN (which I assumed was MY PIN, since it's MY account)

On a whim, we tried using my child's PIN who was logged into Windows on the Laptop.

It worked.

IMHO, this is a horrible system. Why would an app ask for login information multiple times for 1 person associated with an APP, but have the last item needed be the login info for a 1 person associated with a OS, and then NOT tell you what it's actually asking for? Who in their right mind would assume that after TWO prompts for info that it would be a THIRD prompt for somebody ELSE?

Ridiculous.

Try to log in your account to another device ( PC, laptop or phone ) or to another console.

If you can log in your account to another device, it means that your account have a good status.

Try to remove your account from the console, do a restart and add it back again

If you cannot log in your account to another device, do contact the Xbox support so they can check your account status.

On the live acct. I did notice that it seemed quick to log on to my 360 from x1 but can you play on both at the same time? That I guess would I guess be an added value for xbox live for sure. Having 2 consoles and Kinect sensors is a mess of wires and
controllers but oh well.

As soon as Microsoft sees that xbox one live members are selling there log in for 360 play they will put the screws tighter on that. Lately just to play from one of my xbox 360 to another in the house at times it would ask me a bunch of security questions.
With 4 accts its hard to remember all that stuff. Microsoft was worried that I was sharing my acct I guess which would never be the case. Every room in our house has a console, One room as 3, its what we do around here.
