Fallout 76 Game Pass for PC - cannot launch

    Hi,

I had this when I first tried it. Turns out the Game-Pass version just doesn't like being installed on any drive other than the C:\ drive. Do you have the game installed on another drive than C:\?

Can't install on a drive other than C:

    Hi,

I have tried all the above and still not allowing me to install to my E: drive :-(

As a last resort I checked the actual security properties of the E: drive and compared it to C: and D: and cannot see any differences of significance.

I understand, my friend. I'd try to create another Local Account on Windows:

    Press Win+R Keys.
    Type netplwiz and press Enter.
    Click Add button.
Click Sign in without a Microsoft Account. If you do not see that option, disconnect from the Internet.
    Click Local account if prompted.
Type the username you want, and the password. You must also specify a hint. Click Next.
    Click Finish.

Make the new local account an admin account:
Select Start > Settings > Accounts > Family & Other Users > Select the Account Owner Name (you should see "Local account" below the name) > Change Account Type.
Select Administrator, and then select OK.
Sign in with the new Administrator Account.

Go to Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in Options > Privacy > Uncheck "Use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device and reopen my apps after an update and restart."

Restart your PC. Try to change folder permissions again or rename the WindowsApp folder to WindowsApp.old and create another WindowsApp and give it permission.

    Open the Xbox App and:
Go to Start > Type Services > Open it.
Find all Xbox Services (Xbox Accessory Management Service, Live Auth Manager, Live Game Save, Live Networking Service). Right Click > Properties> Set the startup type to Automatic. Also Start them.

See if you are able to install the games on your E: drive then and let me know.

Can't install on a drive other than C:

    Hello Lucas,

Thank you for offering to help. All my hard drives are NTFS.

The E: drive has "windowsapps", "wpsystem" and "deliveryoptimization" folders, so some parts of Windows are using it already.

If you think of anything else I would appreciate it!

Do you know if your E: drive is NTFS? Game Pass only allow games to be installed on NTFS partitions.

    ....

See if this helps and let me know, please.

Hello, jdcopelin. Thanks for reaching out! My name is Lucas, and I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user just like you. I'll be happy to assist you today.

Do you know if your E: drive is NTFS? Game Pass only allow games to be installed on NTFS partitions.

    - Click the start button and then (depending on your operating system) click Computer or My Computer.

    - In the Computer window, right click the drive you wish to check and then click Properties from the menu.

    - In the Disk Properties window, you will see it next to File system.

If it's FAT32, just convert it to NTFS:

Open a command prompt window by typing Command prompt in the Windows search box. Right click on it and Run as administrator. Type:

    convert E: /fs:ntfs

Press Enter to being the process.

The file system conversion process should not take very long and the on-screen details are fairly intuitive.

Once completed, your FAT32 drive will be converted to NTFS. Close the Command Prompt window and you’re all done.

See if this helps and let me know, please.
