Cannot hear when headset or any earbuds are plugged into controller

Short answer, no, the controller updates go through to the consoles (Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X) so the drivers are the same. Give the steps listed by fellow XBF Javier R to troubleshoot but unfortunately if they don't help the next step would
be to replace the hardware. We would also suggest
Requesting a Callback from one of our Xbox Support Specialists to look into the warranty information on the controller since if it is under warranty they could have options to replace the controller. Hope this helps!

We understand that you're experiencing an issue in reference to the controller's inability to detect any audio jack connected device such as a headset and or earbuds.

When it comes to this inability, it can either mean the controller firmware would need to be updated, or the controller may need to be replaced.

If the controller is up to date, it may mean that the jack on the actual controller is causing issues with recognition, and the controller would need to be replaced.

In that case I suspect that the headset may not be plugged in correctly, or it does not have a mic.

Thank you for responding. I see your son has been dealing with some headset issues. On the top right corner of your home page, there are a couple of icons. From the symptoms you have provided, my guess is the headset icon has a line going through it. If
this is the case, there is a good chance this is software related, which you can fix by performing a

factory reset:

1. Press the Xbox button
   to open the guide.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select All Settings.
4. Select System.
5. Select Console info & updates.
6. Select Reset console.

Make sure you guys have the email and password for the accounts as this will remove them. Also, you will be given the option to keep your games and apps (that way you don't have to worry about redownloading everything). If the issue persists, test out a
different controller and earbuds to make sure this isn't hardware related. Lets us know how it goes!
